Manager Tony La Russa said Monday that he expects Cueto to help the team "sooner rather than later," Mark Potash of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cueto impressed in his last outing with Triple-A Charlotte, throwing four scoreless innings while striking out six. Though it's already been determined that he will make another start in the minors, Cueto could have his contract purchased and realistically make his White Sox debut by May 11 -- which lines up with Vince Velasquez's turn through the rotation. Even if that occurs, Lance Lynn (knee) is pushing to return by the end of May, so Cueto's long-term role remains unclear. However, La Russa's comments suggest the team is high on Cueto's potential to contribute, so he may be utilized creatively so long as he shows some effectiveness.

Manager Tony La Russa said Friday that Cueto will need at least one more start at Triple-A Charlotte, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cueto made his second appearance in Charlotte on Thursday and allowed a hit and no walks while striking out six in four scoreless innings. Although the right-hander posted good results, he'll need at least one or two more starts in the minors before he's in the mix to make his debut for the White Sox.

Cueto allowed one hit and no walks while striking out six across four innings Thursday with Triple-A Charlotte. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Cueto made his second appearance with Charlotte, and he looked much sharper than in his first outing with the club. Despite the strong performance, Cueto still threw only 45 pitches, so he is far from fully stretched out. Currently on a minor-league deal, Cueto could make an impact with the White Sox at some point this season, but he'll likely need to build his arm strength with a few more appearances in the minors prior to doing so.

Cueto (0-1) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two across 2.2 innings to take the loss Saturday against Triple-A Nashville.
EDGE Analysis
Cueto signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on April 4, and he has been building up his arm strength since. He took another step in that process Saturday, and while the results weren't particularly strong he did throw 53 pitches. Given that he's on a minor-league deal, there's no guarantee that Cueto will be with the White Sox any time in the near future. However, once Cueto is up to speed, the team could opt to utilize him as the fifth starter to replace Vince Velasquez in the rotation.

Cueto has advanced his progression to Triple-A Charlotte, where he'll likely need a couple of starts before he's ready to contribute to the White Sox, Daryl Van Schouwen of The Chicago Sun-Times reports. "You can only speed it up so much," manager Tony La Russa said. "We're looking forward to having him up here."
EDGE Analysis
Dallas Keuchel's disastrous start in the first half of Wednesday's doubleheader brings the need for Cueto to join the White Sox into sharp focus. The team will be getting Lucas Giolito back over the weekend, but it remains another starter down after that.

Cueto has yet to face hitters at the White Sox's extended spring training facility in Arizona but could be ready to throw live batting practice within the next few days, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Since Cueto didn't sign his minor-league deal with the White Sox until April 4, he's only about one week into his own version of spring training. The White Sox envision Cueto serving as rotation depth, so he'll likely need at least a couple of weeks to get adequately stretched out for starting duty before the team determines whether there's room for him on the big-league roster. Lucas Giolito (abdomen) was added to the injured list Tuesday, but Cueto looks to be a more logical candidate to replace Lance Lynn (knee), who is sidelined with a longer-term injury than Giolito.

Cueto signed a minor-league contract with Chicago on Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cueto was previously in talks with Minnesota about a potential contract, but he'll head to Chicago following Monday's signing. Since he signed this late in the spring, he'll need to start the 2022 campaign at Triple-A to ramp up his throwing before a potential promotion to the big leagues. Cueto proved he has plenty left in the tank last season with the Giants, posting a 4.08 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and a 98:30 K:BB across 114.2 frames.

Cueto has talked to the Twins about the possibility of a one-year deal, sources told Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic.
EDGE Analysis
Cueto remained a serviceable pitcher last season with a 4.08 ERA and a 6.1 percent walk rate mostly offsetting a 20.0 percent strikeout rate and 38.1 percent groundball rate. He'll likely find a job before spring training ends, but he may not be ready for the start of the regular season if he doesn't sign soon. Minnesota would appear to be a good fit since the Twins could use another veteran starter in their rotation.

Cueto will become a free agent after the Giants declined his $22 million team option Friday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cueto remained a serviceable pitcher in his age-35 season, but he's not one a team would pay $22 million for. In 22 starts and one relief appearance, he posted a 4.08 ERA, with a 6.1 percent walk rate mostly offsetting a 20.0 percent strikeout rate and 38.1 percent groundball rate. He looked good enough that he should be able to land somewhere as a back-end starter, but he's unlikely to be a team's top priority.

Cueto was not included on the Giants' roster for the NLDS against the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cueto wasn't going to start games in the postseason, and having two days off during the NLDS reduces the need for bulk relievers. The righty finished the regular season with a 4.08 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 114.2 innings, including a scoreless, 5.2-inning start against the Dodgers on July 29, so it's still a bit surprising he's not on the roster.
