Lamb is currently scheduled to take the ball Sunday against the Orioles, but he'll need to deliver a much improved product if he's to keep his spot in the rotation for the time being.

Lamb was originally scheduled to start Friday before Thursday's starter, Tyler Skaggs, was scratched just hours before first pitch with hamstring tightness. Thanks to an off day Wednesday, Lamb will be on regular rest. The 27-year-old allowed two runs across five innings while striking out five in his first start of the season.

Lamb was called up as expected Saturday and will take the mound against Oakland, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

EDGE Analysis

The southpaw will make his first big-league appearance since 2016. In 24 career major-league starts, the 27-year-old has a 6.17 ERA. He'll square off against Sean Manaea and the Athletics on Saturday.

EDGE Analysis

Expect a roster move to be made following Friday night's contest with the Athletics. Lamb owns a 3.44 ERA with 54 strikeouts over 49.2 innings for Triple-A Salt Lake and has been a strikeout machine throughout his minor league career. Given the myriad of injuries in the Angels starting rotation, this might well be Lamb's best chance to prove he belongs in the majors.

The 27-year-old lefty spent 2017 suspended for 50 games (drug of abuse) and then finished the campaign logging 13 starts for the Angels' Triple-A affiliate. He notched an unimpressive 5.37 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 48:26 K:BB in 70.1 innings, and can be left alone for now in most fantasy formats. Look for him to spend most, if not all of 2018 back at Triple-A.

Lamb has made two starts for Triple-A Salt Lake since completing a 50-game suspension for a second positive test for a drug of abuse, covering 10 innings and giving up four runs on nine hits and six walks.

EDGE Analysis

Lamb had been recovering from back surgery to begin the season before he was hit with the suspension in May, but now that he's healthy again, he'll try to resurrect a once-promising career in the upper minors. The lefty isn't a member of the Angels' 40-man roster, so he'll likely need to curb the walks and show an uptick in velocity if he hopes to resurface in the big leagues before 2017 draws to a close.
