Hicks went 2-for-4 with a home run and a pair of runs scored Thursday against Oakland.
EDGE Analysis
Making his first major-league appearance since 2019, the former Mariner and Tiger blasted a solo homer in the sixth inning and added a single in the eighth. The 31-year-old has enjoyed productive stretches in his previous MLB stints -- he had a .766 OPS for Detroit in 2017 and popped 13 homers in 2019 -- but is likely headed back to Triple-A Round Rock once Jose Trevino (forearm) is back to full health.

The Rangers selected Hicks' contract Tuesday from Triple-A Round Rock.
EDGE Analysis
Hicks will serve as the backup catcher while Jose Trevino (forearm) misses a few days. He's hit .264 with three home runs and 17 RBI in 110 minor-league at-bats this year, and, if he gets any playing time, will make his first big-league appearance since 2019 with the Tigers.

Hicks was reassigned to minor-league camp Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Hicks was a non-roster invitee to begin spring training and went 2-for-7 with a two-run home run and three strikeouts over six Cactus League games. He could join the major-league roster as catching depth at some point in 2021 but should begin the year with Triple-A Round Rock.

Hicks signed a minor-league contract with Texas on Friday that includes an invite to spring training.
EDGE Analysis
Hicks has appeared in the big leagues in parts of five seasons, with his .235/.280/.391 career slash line leaving him firmly in backup catcher territory. He's probably on the outside looking in even for that role, however, as he struggled to a 56 wRC+ in 2019 before failing to appear on a 40-man roster at any point in 2020.

The Diamondbacks released Hicks on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
The non-contending Diamondbacks weren't planning on calling Hicks up from their alternate training site during the final week of the regular season, so the veteran catcher will instead get a head start on finding a new home in advance of the 2021 campaign. The 31-year-old will likely have to settle for a minor-league deal again this winter after submitting a .210/.240/.379 line across 333 plate appearances during his most recent stint in the majors with Detroit in 2019.

Hicks will be a part of the Diamondbacks' 60-man summer camp.
EDGE Analysis
Hicks was brought on by Arizona on a minor-league deal in January, but wasn't expected to make the final roster with Carson Kelly and Stephen Vogt penciled in as the club's primary backstops. Expanded rosters could improve Hicks' chances, but he'll also need to contend with Daulton Varsho, who may have a stronger case for a roster spot due to his ability to play outfield as well.

Hicks signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. The deal includes an invitation to big-league spring training.
EDGE Analysis
Arizona appears set to open the upcoming season with Carson Kelly and Stephen Vogt as its two backstops, but the latter's history of concussions makes Hicks a useful option to have in reserve at Triple-A Reno. Hicks played exclusively at the big-league level for Detroit the past two seasons but saw his performance dip in 2019, when he slashed just .210/.240/.379 across 333 plate appearances.

Hicks was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday and elected free agency.
EDGE Analysis
The 30-year-old saw inconsistent playing time throughout 2019 as the Tigers opted to give younger players some major-league experience. A change of scenery could help Hicks carve out a more established role, potentially in a more consistent timeshare, although he has shown to have below-average offensive production throughout his career. Hicks struggled at the plate last season, hitting just .210/.240/.379 with a 32.7 percent strikeout rate.

Appearing as a pinch hitter, Hicks hit a go-ahead, three-run home run in the ninth inning of the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Hicks hit for Detroit catcher Jake Rogers and popped his 13th home run of the season against stingy Chicago closer Alex Colome, putting the Tigers up 4-2 in a game they'd go on to win 4-3. It was perhaps the highlight of the year for Hicks, who hasn't been particularly effective in general with a .627 OPS while falling into a reserve role with Detroit taking a look at some younger players.

Hicks went 3-for-4 with a walkoff grand slam in an 8-4 extra-innings victory against the Orioles on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
The 30-year-old has gone a month this season without producing four RBI, so this was quite a productive day for Hicks. It was his first game with a homer and four RBI this year, and with two other hits, he raised his season average six points. Hicks is batting .217 with 12 home runs, 32 RBI and 28 runs in 299 at-bats this season.
