Gant didn't factor into the decision during the Cardinals' win Saturday but threw five scoreless innings while allowing four hits, walking three and striking out two Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander boasts a 3.17 ERA after this brief but effective outing. He's started seven of his 13 major-league outings this year, and while his success is probably inflated (7.5 K/9, 4.2 BB/9, 3.66 FIP), the 25-year-old has served St. Louis well in each role. If he sticks in the rotation, he'll be tasked to tame this Cubs lineup again Friday.

Gant will start the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cubs, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It will mark Gant's first start since July 6, as the Cardinals' light schedule in the final week of the first half allowed them to temporarily get by with four starters. Gant ended up making a relief appearance in the Cardinals' final game before the All-Star break last Sunday, spinning four no-hit innings and striking out four to capture his third win of the season. Over his six starts this season, Gant has provided a 4.32 ERA and 30:15 K:BB in 33.1 innings.

Gant tossed four no-hit innings in long relief Sunday and was credited with the win in the Cardinals' 6-4 victory over the Reds. He walked two and struck out four in the 61-pitch outing.
EDGE Analysis
Due to a pair of off days last week, Gant was temporarily moved to the bullpen as the Cardinals rolled out a four-man rotation. Despite not having pitched in more than a week, Gant was stellar in the series finale in relief of Miles Mikolas, who lasted only four innings in his shortest outing of the season. The Cardinals will open their post-All-Star-break schedule Thursday against the Cubs, beginning a stretch of eight games in seven days for St. Louis. Expect Gant to re-enter the rotation and take the hill for at least one of those contests.

Gant won't start any of the Cardinals' three games over the weekend against the Reds and is expected to work out of the bullpen, Jenifer Langosch and Max Gelman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
After making his most recent start July 6 against the Giants, Gant would have been available to start Friday's series opener. However, with Miles Mikolas electing to skip out on his first All-Star appearance and instead starting Sunday's contest, the Cardinals will be able to get by with a four-man rotation this week following off days Monday and Thursday. Gant should be the leading candidate to rejoin the rotation when a fifth starter is first needed out of the break June 23 in Cincinnati.

Gant (2-3) allowed four runs in 5.1 innings Sunday, yielding four hits and three walks in a 6-5 loss to Atlanta. He struck out two and allowed a home run.
EDGE Analysis
Gant held Atlanta in check for most of the afternoon before giving up a two-run long ball off the bat of Freddie Freeman in the sixth inning. It was certainly a disappointing outing after he held a strong Cleveland lineup off the scoreboard across seven frames in his last appearance. Gant owns a 3.92 ERA and a 34:17 K:BB in 39 innings on the season. He'll look to turn the tides in his next outing on Friday in San Francisco.

Gant (2-2) tossed seven shutout innings with four strikeouts and allowed just one hit and five walks through seven innings to pick up the win Monday against Cleveland.
EDGE Analysis
Gant was making a spot start for Michael Wacha (oblique), but considering how well he pitched, there's little doubt he'll stay in the rotation for at least a couple more turns, as Wacha will miss multiple weeks. Gant's fastball reached the mid-90s and induced 10 balls in play without a single hit. Cleveland hitters kept beating the ball into the ground, as Gant induced 10 groundballs to go with his 10 swinging strikes. He'll carry a 3.48 ERA into his next turn Sunday against Atlanta.

Gant will start Monday against Cleveland, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Cardinals will need someone to fill in for the injured Michael Wacha (oblique). Wacha is expected to miss multiple weeks, so Gant has the opportunity to make at least a handful of starts. He'll have a possible two-start week coming up, with a possible start against the Braves over the following weekend, though the Cardinals have an off day Thursday and could elect to push their fifth starter back a few days.

Gant was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Gant will take the roster spot of Michael Wacha (oblique), who was sent to the disabled list Thursday. The right-hander will be immediately available out of the bullpen, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, but he could also take Wacha's turn in the rotation Monday against the Indians if he isn't overworked before then. Gant owns a 4.74 ERA across seven appearances (three starts) with the Cardinals this season.

Gant was demoted to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Gant will head to the minor leagues after allowing one run on two hits and four walks over two innings during Wednesday's loss to Milwaukee. He's appeared in seven games this season, accruing a 4.74 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 26 strikeouts across 24.2 innings.

Gant will move to the St. Louis bullpen this week with the Cardinals set to activate Alex Reyes (elbow) from the 60-day disabled list and add him to the rotation Wednesday against the Brewers, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gant was always believed to be a short-term starting option for the Cardinals when Adam Wainwright (elbow) and Carlos Martinez (lat) went down with injuries earlier this month, so it's no surprise he'll cede his rotation spot to Reyes, who looks to have made a full recovery from Tommy John surgery after striking out 44 batters across 23 innings over his four rehab starts in the minors. Though Gant ceded eight runs (six earned) over 9.2 innings in his last two turns through the rotation, his 1.03 WHIP and 14:2 K:BB over that stretch indicate that he pitched better than his ERA would indicate. As such, the Cardinals won't hesitate to turn back to Gant in a starting role if another rotation should open up down the road.
