Joey Devine has opted to become a free agent. The 29-year-old reliever has undergone two Tommy John surgeries in the past three years and isn't sure to be ready for the beginning of 2013. Devine will likely have to accept a minor league contract this offseason.

Joey Devine (elbow) will begin a throwing program on September 10. Devine is working his way back from his second Tommy John surgery in three years, and won't be ready to return until the early part of the 2013 season. Arbitration-eligible for the first time next winter, he remains a candidate to be released.

Joey Devine (elbow) is on track to begin a throwing program at some point in August. Devine underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in April and won't be ready to return to the major leagues until the early part of the 2013 season. He has thrown only 23 innings for Oakland since 2008.

Joey Devine will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. It's what we were worried about after it was revealed that the oft-injured right-hander would need some sort of procedure. It will be the second Tommy John surgery for Devine, who has pitched just 23 innings in the big leagues since 2008 and will likely be sidelined into the start of the 2013 season. You have to wonder if the A's will just cut him loose.

Joey Devine is scheduled to undergo elbow surgery on Tuesday. Dr. James Andrews will perform the surgery. No word on the exact nature of the procedure, but Devine is currently sidelined with flexor tendon tendinitis. The oft-inured right-hander has pitched just 23 innings in the big leagues since 2008 and is likely headed for another lengthy absence.

Joey Devine (flexor tendon tendinitis) is scheduled to visit with Dr. James Andrews on Monday. Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Thursday that his understanding is that Devine's MRI didn't show any significant damage. Still, the 28-year-old right-hander can't seem to shake the flexor tendon tendinitis which has hampered him for the past couple seasons. We should know more about his status at some point next week.

According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, the biceps tendinitis that has bothered Joey Devine for the past several years hasn't been resolved. Devine says that Dr. James Andrews is looking at his MRI, with the best case scenario simply being more tendinitis. The worst case scenario however, is flexor-tendon surgery. What was once a very promising young career has been derailed by repetitive injuries.

Joey Devine (biceps) has been shut down indefinitely. Devine was placed on the disabled list prior to last week's Opening Series due to right biceps tendinitis. He is eligible to return on April 8, but that obviously won't happen now. We should know more about his status after he visits a doctor in the next day or two.

Athletics placed RHP Joey Devin on the 15-day disabled list with right biceps soreness. The oft-injured right-hander has been dealing with right biceps soreness for over a week. He's still scheduled to throw a bullpen session Sunday, but the A's don't want to push him with the games in Japan just 10 days away. He'll be eligible to return on April 8, though it's not clear if he'll be activated then.

Joey Devine (biceps) is scheduled to throw off flat ground Friday. Devine has been sidelined for a week while dealing with right biceps soreness. Barring any setbacks, he hopes to get back on a mound on Saturday. The A's are scheduled to leave for Japan in six days, so he's running out of time to get ramped up for the start of the season.
