Smith picked up his sixth save as he worked around a walk and struck out a batter in Monday's win over the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Smith recovered from a blown save in Saturday's game against Baltimore and now has four saves in his past five appearances. Smith has given up three home runs in just 23 innings and has a mediocre 15:7 K:BB. Smith has spent much of his career in a setup or situational role, and with a 4.30 ERA as he has been thrust into higher leverage opportunities, you can see why he hasn't been able to hold a closer job for long.

Smith blew his second save of the season Saturday versus the Orioles, allowing three runs on two hits and one walk in an inning of work.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran retired the first two hitter he faced, but he proceeded to put two men on base before Matt Wieters took him deep. Smith has blown two saves in just seven chances, raising his ERA to 4.50, but he still appears to be the top option while Huston Street (oblique) remains sidelined.

Smith needed just 10 pitches Thursday against the Dodgers to earn his fifth save of the season. He didn't allow a baserunner and struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
Smith matched his total number of saves from last season with Thursday's clean inning. However, his role as the team's closer may not last much longer. Huston Street is nearing a return after throwing a 25-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday.

Smith struck out a pair of batters in a spotless ninth inning to earn his fourth save of the season Sunday versus the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander earned a win Friday and ceded the save opportunity to Fernando Salas, but he has closed out the two subsequent games without allowing a baserunner. He still appears to be the lead dog in the Angels' bullpen while Huston Street (oblique) remains sidelined.

Smith saved his third game with a perfect ninth inning while striking out one Saturday at the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Smith had no trouble closing out a two-run lead despite throwing 21 pitches. He's now been perfect in three save opportunities while handling the closer role with Huston Street on the disabled list.

Smith recorded a six-out save against the Brewers on Wednesday afternoon with a pair of scoreless innings.
EDGE Analysis
He struck out two and allowed just one hit, throwing 28 pitches in the appearance. The Angels did not use Smith on Monday or Tuesday, and with an off-day on the schedule Thursday, he should be available as needed Friday for the team's weekend series opener against Tampa Bay.

Smith, who recorded his first save of the season in Wednesday's victory over the Royals, is set to take over as the Angels' closer for the time being with Huston Street (oblique) likely headed for the disabled list.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was called upon to protect a ninth-inning lead Wednesday with Street unavailable, and it looks like he will have the opportunity to continue doing that as needed until Street is ready to return to action in a few weeks. Smith does not strike out batters like some of the premier ninth-inning options, but he does have a history of success in the closer's role, converting 15 of 18 save opportunities while serving as the Angels' fireman for much of the first half in 2014.

Smith tossed a scoreless ninth, pitching around a single, for his first save of the year Wednesday against the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Huston Street (oblique) is ticketed for the DL, and Smith is the first man up to take the save chances in his place. Street's owners would do well to snatch up Smith while the Angels' typical closer is on the DL; although his strikeouts are way down (just five in 12 innings), the 32-year-old righty has also allowed only one walk this year and remains a reliable bullpen option. It's worth noting that Fernando Salas could get a shot as well if Smith stumbles.

Smith will not be available for Monday's game after pitching three innings over the past two days, Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith struggled in both outings, giving up three runs on five hits, so the day off may be very beneficial for the reliever. He'll slot back into a fairly big role in the Angels bullpen when he is available, though.

Smith (0-1) surrendered two hits and two earned runs over an inning in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
Both runs came on eighth-inning solo blasts by Oswaldo Arcia and Byung Ho Park, with Park's traveling an astounding 462 feet, making it the fifth longest homer in Target Field history. The pair of dingers were the first surrendered by Smith on the season, who'd come in to the game sporting a tidy 2.25 ERA over four innings of work. The nine-year veteran provided some solid efforts out of the bullpen over his first two seasons in Anaheim, and figures to be an integral part of the late innings once again throughout 2016.
