Angels signed RHP Joe Blanton to a two-year, $15 million contract with an $8 million club option for 2015.
Blanton will make $6.5 million next season and $7.5 million in 2014 while the option carries a $1 million buyout. The 32-year-old right-hander posted a 4.71 ERA and 166/34 K/BB ratio over 191 innings this past season between the Phillies and Dodgers and should slot behind Jered Weaver, C.J. Wilson and Tommy Hanson in the Angels' rotation. Making half of his starts in pitcher-friendly Angel Stadium will help his chances of being useful, but he's only a fringe option in standard mixed fantasy leagues.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com hears that Joe Blanton's deal with the Angels is for two years and $15 million.
Previous reports said that it was only a one-year deal, but apparently that's not the case. Blanton posted a 4.71 ERA in 2012 for the Phillies and Dodgers, which was his lowest mark in three years. It's possible that the Angels could still be in the hunt for another starter even after acquiring Blanton and Tommy Hanson.

According to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times, the Angels are closing to signing Joe Blanton to a one-year deal.
Financial terms aren't available at this time. Blanton has put up nice peripherals over the last four seasons, but he hasn't had an ERA lower than 4.71 in the last three campaigns. MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez hears that bringing in Blanton doesn't necessarily mean that the Halos are done shopping for starting pitching. They're considered unlikely to re-sign Zack Greinke.

Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox have "checked in on" Joe Blanton.
Blanton surely wouldn't be the Sox' primary acquisition as they look to beef up their pitching staff, but he's apparently one of the secondary options they're considering. The veteran right-hander posted a 4.71 ERA and 166/34 K/BB ratio over 191 innings for the Phillies and Dodgers this season.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Joe Blanton would start a potential tiebreaker with the Cardinals Thursday.
The Dodgers need to win their final two games and have the Cards lose their last two in order to force a game Thursday, which would be played in Los Angeles. Blanton has posted a 4.99 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 10 starts for the Dodgers.

Joe Blanton scattered seven hits across six scoreless innings in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Rockies.
Blanton struck out six and walked none in improving to 10-13, and 2-4 in 10 starts as a Dodger. Blanton is likely done for the season, but with the Dodgers still within striking distance of the second Wild Card, it's possible he'll be called on in relief Tuesday or Wednesday. If Blanton's thrown his final pitch of 2012, he'll finish the owner of a 4.71 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 166/34 K/BB ratio through 191 innings. He's headed for free agency.

Joe Blanton allowed three runs in 7 1/3 innings Wednesday in a victory over the Rockies.
Blanton allowed just one run through seven before giving up singles to two of the three batters he faced in the eighth. The Rockies went on to score seven runs in the inning before the Dodgers held on to win 10-8. It was Blanton's first victory in five starts as a Dodger. He likely would have been bounced from the rotation this week if not for Chad Billingsley's injury.
