Marinez has thrown 10 innings to begin the season, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits and eight walks.

Since April 14, however, Marinez has given up just two runs over 5.2 innings. His 8:8 K:BB ratio still leaves plenty to be desired, but there's a chance he'll see some high-leverage opportunities throughout the season.

Marinez was informed Thursday that he will open the regular season in the Brewers' bullpen, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports.

It would have taken a rough spring for Marinez not to break camp with the big club -- he is out of options and was effective over 43 appearances after being claimed by the Brewers last season -- but he has had anything but, giving up just one earned run and allowing only seven baserunners over eight spring innings. Like last year, Marinez will work in middle relief for the Brewers.

As long as he continues to put together solid outings like he's done so far, he'll likely continue to be a middle-relief option for Milwaukee going forward.

Marinez was designated for assignment last weekend, and he ultimately found a new home with the Brewers. He has appeared in jus nine major league games, but he did strike out 74 batters over his last 69 innings at the Triple-A level and throws in the mid-90s, so the Brewers were willing to give him another shot in the big leagues. Expect him to work in middle relief for his new squad.

Marinez saw just three outings with the Rays, a total of 3.2 innings which resulted in an ERA of 2.45 and WHIP of 0.55. While those appearances weren't all that terrible, there's simply not enough room for the 27-year-old in the bullpen as Tampa Bay promoted Matt Andriese in a related move Saturday.
