Jerry Hairston, Jr. (groin) is scheduled to have his knee examined Friday. Hairston was placed on the disabled list earlier this month due to left groin strain, but now his knee is giving him issues. It's suddenly unlikely that he'll be back when he's eligible.

Jerry Hairston. Jr. (groin) is expected to be placed on the disabled list Tuesday. Hairston attempted to test his strained groin muscle during pre-game workouts on Monday, but he ended up limping off the field. With Mark Ellis (quad) also sidelined, Nick Punto will likely see most of the playing time at second base. It's not clear who will replace Hairston on the active roster, but Tony Gwynn Jr., Nick Buss, Elian Herrera and Scott Van Slyke are among the possibilities for a call-up.

Jerry Hairston Jr. left Saturday's game after tweaking his groin. He suffered the injury while rounding third base in the fifth inning. The good news is that the ailment is considered minor, as Hairston said he could have stayed in the game. Consider him day-to-day.
