Palacios still received the opportunity to compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster in big-league camp, but after falling short in his bid for a utility role, he'll presumably stick around in the organization as infield depth at Toledo.

The 26-year-old boasts a solid glove in the middle infield, but he's unlikely to hit well enough to emerge as anything more than a bench player in the big leagues.

Palacios' contract was selected by the Twins on Saturday.
