Athletics released OF Jeff Fiorentino. Fiorentino hasn't played in the majors since 2009, and was hitting just .186 through 46 at-bats with Triple-A Sacramento. He's free to sign with any other organization, and will have to do so if he plans to continue his career.

Athletics signed OF Jeff Fiorentino to a minor league contract. Fiorentino played in Japan in 2010 and has a .270/.341/.324 batting line over 173 major league plate appearances. He'll likely serve as organizational depth in Oakland's outfield-barren farm system.
