Alexander didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Nationals, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
Alexander set a season high in punchouts, though he did walk multiple batters in his fifth outing in a row. The 32-year-old right-hander was pulled after tossing 80 pitches, but he was at least able to limit the damage and eat some innings for Houston's injury-plagued rotation. Alexander's next turn tentatively projects for next week in Miami against the Marlins, though it's possible Spencer Arrighetti (thumb) will be ready to come off the injured list by then. Through 25.2 innings, Alexander has a 7.36 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and 20:14 K:BB.

Alexander will start Tuesday's game against the Nationals in Houston.
EDGE Analysis
Alexander is likely to be optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land or moved to the bullpen once the Astros get one or two of their four rehabbing starters (Spencer Arrighetti, Cristian Javier, Luis Garcia and J.P. France) back from the injured list, but until then, he should maintain a spot in the rotation. The southpaw will pick up his second straight start despite struggling in a loss to the Athletics following his call-up from Triple-A on Thursday, when he was charged with five earned runs on 11 hits and two walks over six innings.

Alexander (1-1) took the loss Thursday against the A's after giving up five runs on 11 hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The Athletics were able to consistently generate offense against Alexander, as they scored in all but the first and third innings. The right-hander was called up from Triple-A Sugar Land to start Thursday and now has a 4.20 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 9:7 K:BB over 15 frames in three outings with the Astros. Alexander could receive another turn through the rotation next week against Washington given the plethora of injuries Houston's pitching staff is dealing with, but the organization may elect to go in another direction.

The Astros recalled Alexander from Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Alexander will draw the start in Thursday's home game against the Athletics, and he could earn additional starts with the big club as the Astros navigate myriad rotation injuries. The 32-year-old's other start for Houston this season also came against the Athletics, and he held them to two runs in six frames. However, the journeyman righty isn't a great bet to put up another quality start Thursday.

Alexander is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land ahead of his expected start against the Athletics on Thursday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Lance McCullers (finger) landing on the 15-day injured list, Alexander will be brought up from Triple-A to bolster the Astros' rotation. Alexander boasts a 5-0 record across eight games (seven starts) in Sugar Land this season with a 1.69 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 36:21 K:BB across 42.2 innings. However, he hasn't had as much success in the majors and has an 8.40 ERA and 1.80 WHIP across 15 innings. Thursday will be Alexander's second major-league start of the season; his first came in a win against the Athletics on June 17, when he allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out four across six innings. Nick Hernandez was optioned to Triple-A following Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Diamondbacks, which opens a spot for Alexander on the Astros' 26-man roster.

The Astros optioned Alexander to Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alexander worked three scoreless innings Friday against the Dodgers to pick up the first save of his MLB career, but he'll be relegated to Triple-A to free a spot in the bullpen for the newly signed Hector Neris. Alexander's 1.72 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in the minors haven't quite translated into big-league success this year, as he's given up 14 earned runs over 15 innings between the Astros and A's.

Alexander allowed two hits and two walks while striking out two over three scoreless innings to earn the save in Friday's 18-1 win over the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
The Astros' lead was never in doubt, as Alexander had plenty of room to work with in the blowout win. He spared the rest of the team's bullpen, turning in a 57-pitch outing to earn the first save of his major-league career. He's still at an 8.40 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 11:10 K:BB across 15 innings between the Astros and the Athletics this year, though he's been much better in limited action with Houston as a swingman. It's unclear if he'll stay in the majors after his call-up Friday -- either way, he won't be available to pitch at any level for at least a few days.

The Astros recalled Alexander from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday. Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alexander owns a 10.50 ERA through 12 innings in the majors this season, though he's given up just two runs in six frames since joining the Astros organization. He'll come up from the minors to provide length out of the bullpen and replace Jordan Weems, who was DFA'd in a corresponding move.

The Astros optioned Alexander to Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander made a spot start for Houston on Tuesday and delivered a quality start against the A's with three runs (two earned) allowed over six innings. Alexander picked up his first win since 2022 with the performance, and he should be in the mix for a promotion the next time the Astros need some rotation depth or a long reliever.

Alexander (1-0) allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out four over six-plus innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Alexander made four appearances with the Athletics earlier in the season and allowed 13 runs (12 earned) over six innings across four relief outings. He started Tuesday and did a good job of quieting his former team until the seventh inning. Alexander threw just 56 of 95 pitches for strikes and wasn't dominant, but it was a serviceable start for the 32-year-old. It's unclear if he'll stick in the Astros' rotation -- he was called up as a spot starter after Lance McCullers (foot) landed on the injured list Monday, prompting a late shuffle of the team's pitching plans for this week. With off days for the last two Mondays of June, the Astros will likely be able to get by with a five-man rotation moving forward.
