Junis has primarily worked as a multi-inning reliever this season and will probably be piggybacked Thursday by Sean Manaea. San Francisco has a TBA listed for Friday's game against the Padres, then it'll be Kyle Harrison (Saturday) and Alex Cobb (Sunday) in the final two games of the four-game series.

Junis (4-3) allowed one hit and struck out one without walking a batter over one scoreless inning to earn the extra-inning win over the Phillies on Wednesday.

Camilo Doval struggled in a blown save, failing to record an out while giving up a game-tying home run to Bryce Harper in the ninth inning. Junis kept the game tied, and the Giants took the lead for good in the 10th. Junis has endured mixed results since the start of July, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) over 26 innings across 13 appearances while serving as one of the Giants' many bulk relievers. Eight of his outings in that span have been longer than an inning. The right-hander had a middling 3.95 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 83:18 K:BB with a save and two holds over 70.2 innings this season.

Junis was responsible for Orlando Arcia's second-inning two-run home run, but Wilmer Flores quickly got Junis off the hook in the third. This was a 43-pitch outing for the right-hander, which came after he threw 62 pitches Tuesday. While he's been in the mix to serve as an opener or bulk reliever, Junis is unlikely to work deep enough into games to get wins when he's starting. He's at a 4.00 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 82:18 K:BB through 69.2 innings over 33 appearances (three starts) this year.

Junis has past experience as a starter, but this was just the second time he's gone four innings all season, so he has a better chance of picking up wins if he's the one pitching behind an opener.

Junis will likely work a few innings before making way for a primary pitcher. Southpaw Sean Manaea was expected to work in long relief during Monday's series opener, but the Giants pivoted and rolled out Tristan Beck for three frames, potentially saving Manaea for Tuesday. Junis has posted a 2.03 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with a 15:1 K:BB over his last seven appearances (13.1 innings).

Junis allowed a hit and struck out three without walking a batter over three scoreless innings in Monday's 4-3 extra-innings loss to Arizona. He did not factor in the decision.

Junis started for the first time in 28 appearances this season, and he delivered a solid, albeit short, outing. Alex Wood piggybacked Junis and gave up two runs over 2.2 innings. Junis has had mostly mixed results as a multi-inning reliever this season, posting a 4.55 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 69:17 K:BB through 59.1 innings. He's had little middle ground lately, allowing multiple runs in six of his last 12 outings while posting scoreless appearances in the other six games in that span. The right-hander may continue to get looks as an opener on piggyback option, but it's unlikely the Giants would stretch him out as a traditional starter this late in the year.

Junis recorded one strikeout in a perfect 11th inning to earn the save in Friday's 7-5 win over the Dodgers.

The Giants currently have a routine bullpen day in their rotation, and this was it, leaving few arms available by the 11th inning. Junis was able to protect a two-run lead with ease, earning the first save of his major-league career in the process. He was effective in late May, but he's given up five runs over 9.2 innings across four appearances in June while typically working in lower-leverage spots. Junis was again called on for a bulk-relief assignment, but the Cubs were able to do damage against him. Matt Mervis and Christopher Morel each took him deep for solo home runs, and Morel would add a two-run single. This was Junis' worst outing since he gave up five runs April 29 against the Padres. He may get another look behind an opener if neither of Ross Stripling (back) or Alex Wood (back) are ready to return by next weekend.
