Thompson (1-4) was a tough-luck loser on Monday, allowing two runs in seven innings against the Nationals. He surrendered seven hits, walked one, and struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The 22-year-old had been having a miserable go of things since joining the Phillies, holding a 9.78 ERA before Monday's start. The pitching prospect owned a 2.50 ERA for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, and should be given every opportunity to find Major League success in September with nothing left for the Phillies to be playing for. Thompson's next start should come Sunday against the Braves.

Manager Pete Mackanin said Thompson will remain in the rotation, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson has really struggled since his promotion to the majors. He is 1-3 with a 9.79 ERA in his first four starts. Mackanin believes part of Thompson's problem is that he is trying to make perfect pitches. The other problem is that Thompson has been up in the zone, but he was successful in the minors by keeping the ball down. He'll try to get on track when he faces the Nationals on Monday in his next start.

Thompson (1-3) allowed seven runs on eight hits and four walks with two strikeouts over five innings in a loss Tuesday to the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson has yet to record a quality start in four chances at the major league level, and for the second straight start he served up two home runs. Thompson had just a 6.0 K/9 in the minor leagues and has had similar problems missing bats with the Phillies. He induced just six swinging strikes Tuesday night and owns a brutal 13:13 K:BB over 19.1 innings, just one reason why his ERA is a sky-high 9.78.

Thompson (1-2) took the loss in his third MLB start, allowing five earned runs on five hits and four walks over five frames, striking out four.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson was done in by a lack of command and a pair of long balls Wednesday, while facing a strong Dodgers lineup. He threw just 55 of 103 pitches for strikes, a concerning trend as he's walked two, three, and now four batters in his last three starts. Thompson, a 22-year-old rookie, will need to demonstrate better command given his lack of overpowering stuff, his fastball averaging just 91 MPH from the right side. His ERA now sits at 8.79, although he'll probably be given a longer leash than many considering the Phillies are in total rebuilding mode.

Thompson earned his first major-league victory in Friday's 10-6 win over the Rockies. He allowed three runs on two hits over five innings with six strikeouts and three walks.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson was laboring in the fifth inning so he did not come out for the sixth inning despite having thrown only 87 pitches. He wasn't walking many batters in the minors, but in his two starts in the majors he has already walked seven. He needs to iron out his command issues. He will face the Dodgers in his next start.

Thompson allowed six runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings in his major-league debut Saturday. He struck out one and walked two.
EDGE Analysis
Not a great debut for Thompson, who told CSN Philadelphia he "was having a hard time commanding the ball down in the zone." Thompson relies on his sinking fastball, so he needs to locate that pitch for success. He will get an opportunity to rebound Friday when he faces the Rockies at home.

Thompson was officially called up Saturday to make his major league debut against the Padres, Stephen Gross of The Morning Call reports.
EDGE Analysis
As expected, Thompson got the promotion before Saturday's game and is now set to make his major league debut. He'll face off against Paul Clemens and the Padres. Thompson holds a career 3.08 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in the minors including an impressive 2016 campaign with Triple-A Lehigh Valley where he went 11-5 with a 2.50 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over 129.2 innings.

Thompson will get his first major league start against the Padres on Saturday, Ryan Lawrence of The Philly Voice reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson has compiled an 11-5 record with Triple-A Lehigh Valley over the course of this season, accumulating a 2.50 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP during 21 starts for the club. In his most recent start July 31, Thompson went seven innings, giving up one earned run on four hits while striking out two. He doesn't have a whole lot of swing-and-miss stuff, only recording 87 strikeouts over 129.2 innings with Lehigh Valley, but will get a chance to show what he has against San Diego on Saturday.

Thompson is being considered to join the Phillies' rotation after Aaron Nola was placed on the DL with an elbow strain, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The team had talked about adding Thompson as a sixth starter, but Nola heading to the DL makes this scenario even more likely. Thompson has been lights-out over his last 10 starts at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, going 7-0 and posting a 1.32 ERA.

Thompson may be added to the Phillies' starting rotation, Matt Gelb of the Philly Inquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Pete Mackanin said the team may opt to use Thompson as a starter in a six-man rotation at some point in the 2016 campaign. Thompson has been fantastic in his debut season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, where he's 11-5 with a 2.50 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. He's been especially good at limiting home runs, as his HR/9 sits at a mere 0.69.
