Esch was released by the Padres on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Esch lost his 40-man spot last weekend and he's now out of a job entirely. While his 0.87 ERA with Double-A San Antonio this season looks well and good, he had 10 walks in just 10.1 innings with the affiliate, and his track record at the upper levels leaves much to be desired.

Esch was designated for assignment Sunday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
In order to open a roster spot for Phil Maton, Esch was designated for assignment. The 27-year-old currently holds an impressive 0.87 ERA over 10.1 innings with Double-A San Antonio this season.

Esch was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Esch only appeared once out of the big-league bullpen, but he failed to record an out and walked two batters, so he'll head back to the minors for more development. Kevin Quackenbush was called up to claim his spot in the bullpen.

Esch was recalled from Double-A San Antonio on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Esch was promoted to the big-league club after Luis Perdomo was placed on the 10-day disabled list with shoulder inflammation, opening up a spot on the 25-man roster. The 27-year-old will likely operate in a very low-leverage relief role during his stint in the majors.

Esch was claimed off waivers by the Padres on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander had a brief cup of coffee with the Marlins last season, but he didn't find much success during that stint (or during his time in the minors for that matter). That being said, the Padres rotation is a disaster, so if Esch can improve his performance against minor leaguers this season, he could find his way up to San Diego sometime over the summer.

Esch was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Esch, who allowed three runs on five hits and hree walks in 1.2 spring frames, failed to deliver much in three MLB starts last year (5.54 ERA) and hasn't wowed with his minor league numbers (4.02 career ERA). The 26-year-old returns to serving as organizational depth.

Esch pitched 3.2 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, including two homers, and one walk while striking out two Braves in Tuesday's no-decision.
EDGE Analysis
Esch's third big league start went no better than his first two, and he now owns a 5.54 ERA and 1.77 WHIP. The 26-year-old rookie has a poor 10:6 K:BB ratio and has surrendered 17 hits, including four homers, over 13 innings. Struggling against the league's worst team proves Esch is far from ready to take on major league hitters. He'll look for his first career victory when he toes the rubber in his next start Monday versus Washington.

Esch (0-1) took the loss on Monday, allowing three runs in five innings. The rookie gave up three hits, walked two, and struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
Esch has now given up five runs over 9.1 inning in his first two major league appearances. The 26-year-old wasn't having a particularly good season in the minors before his recall, posting a 5.70 ERA for Triple-A New Orleans and a 4.03 mark for Double-A Jacksonville earlier in 2016. Esch's next start will be Sunday against the Dodgers.

Esch made his major league debut Wednesday, and went 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks, striking out two and receiving no decision.
EDGE Analysis
It wasn't exactly the debut he'd dreamed of, but Esch managed to tiptoe around 10 baserunners to keep the game close when he was removed in the fifth after just 71 pitches. Esch has kept a low strikeout rate throughout the minors, never striking out a batter an inning at any level, which could put a damper on his potential fantasy value. Esch is filling in for an injured David Phelps, who is expected to only miss a couple starts, so Esch may find himself back in the minors before long.

EDGE Analysis
With David Phelps being placed on the disabled list with an strained oblique, Esch will head to Miami and make his MLB debut. Over four starts with New Orleans, he's allowed 15 runs and walked nine batters across 23.2 innings.
