Ellsbury went 3-for-5 with a strikeout in Thursday's loss to the A's.
EDGE Analysis
All three hits were singles, and Ellsbury was stranded all three times. The center fielder has continued to struggle in the early going, as he has just a .293 OBP, but the three-hit day brings his average up to .255 -- just two points below where he finished last season.

Ellsbury is not in the lineup Tuesday against the A's, Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York reports.
EDGE Analysis
With the Yankees set to face the left-handed Eric Surkamp, Aaron Hicks will draw the start in center field. Ellsbury -- who has gone just 1-for-15 over the last four games to drop his season average to just .213 -- will likely continue seeing the occasional off day whenever a lefty is on the mound.

Ellsbury went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's loss to the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Ellsbury went hitless on Opening Day, but he's collected a hit in all of the following six games. His consecutive multi-hit games have helped raise his average back up to .281 to go along with a pair of steals in three attempts on the young season.

Ellsbury was 1-for-5 with a three-run triple in Saturday's 8-4 victory over the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
His three-bagger highlighted a four-run fourth inning that staked the Yankees to a 6-0 lead, but Ellsbury continued to struggle at the plate otherwise. He struck out on another two times, giving him six whiffs over 23 at-bats. Following a 2015 season where he generated mediocre 78-and-22.2 percent contact and strikeout rates, respectively, the inital returns on Ellsbury's 2016 performance aren't particularly encouraging.

Ellsbury went 2-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run against the Astros on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
A 1-for-9 start through the first two games of the season wasn't a good look for Ellsbury, but this was much more like it. Even at 32 years old, he should remain a decent source of speed, but it's far from evident that we can still expect Ellsbury to flash the power and batting average that he put up in his prime years -- and injuries are always an issue, too.

Ellsbury is batting leadoff for Tuesday's game against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
With Aaron Hicks getting the start in left field Tuesday, it was between Ellsbury and Brett Gardner for the last starting spot in the outfield. Ultimately, it was decided that Ellsbury, who ended the spring with a home run, would draw the start in center and bat leadoff. He'll look to set the table Tuesday against Houston's ace, Dallas Keuchel, against whom Ellsbury is 2-for-7 lifetime with a walk and a strikeout.

Ellsbury could be in danger of sitting out of the lineup on Opening Day, Ryan Hatch of the Star-Ledger reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Joe Girardi indicated Saturday that Aaron Hicks would be in the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros, meaning that either Ellsbury or Brett Gardner are at risk of being left on the bench. Girardi and the Yankees won't likely say anything further on the matter until Monday, but owners of either Ellsbury or Gardner should be on notice before setting their lineups. The Yankees will be facing lefty Dallas Keuchel, and Ellsbury's career .284 batting average against southpaws could keep him in the lineup over Gardner and his career .260 average against them.

Ellsbury (wrist) returned to Grapefruit League action Sunday, going 0-for-3 against the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
Ellsbury was held out of action for over a week since getting hit by a pitch on the wrist, but it appears he was able to get through Sunday's contest without incident. Barring a further setback, he'll be good to go for Opening Day next week.

Ellsbury (wrist) will return to the lineup for Sunday's spring training game against the Twins, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ellsbury has had some starts and stops during his recovery from a wrist injury, but after taking batting practice Thursday and getting a couple extra days off, he'll draw back into the order Sunday. If he's able to get through Sunday's game without incident, he'll be headed in the right direction with Opening Day approaching.

Ellsbury (wrist) is expected to return to action Sunday, Jared Diamond of The Wall Street Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ellsbury sat out Friday's spring game due to his sore wrist, but he reportedly felt much better than he did the previous day, and should be able to return after taking it easy for one more day.
