One of Atlanta's more impressive relievers in the 2019 and 2020 seasons, Webb's performance took a major step back during the team's run to the World Series in 2021. He worked almost exclusively in low-leverage spots last season, accruing one save and no holds over 34 appearances while logging a 4.19 ERA and 1.51 WHIP. With Atlanta improving its relief ranks this offseason with the pickups of Kenley Jansen and Collin McHugh, the team had no room in its Opening Day bullpen for Webb.

Webb was tasked with pitching the 11th inning and ended just one out away from closing things out, but a sac fly from Kevin Gausman that scored Brandon Crawford changed the outcome of the contest. This was the first time Webb allowed a run since May 21, though, and for the most part, he's been a reliable arm for the Braves out of the bullpen.

Webb made his first appearance since being recalled earlier this week and looked in complete control of the situation, tossing 18 of his 26 pitches for strikes and cruising his way through the middle innings after piggybacking Touki Toussaint's short three-inning outing. The right-hander has been up and down the big-league roster over the last few months, but he has not allowed a run in any of his last six appearances at this level.

Webb was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Aug. 17, and he allowed three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six in 3.2 innings across four minor-league appearances since then. However, he'll provide an extra arm in Atlanta's bullpen since active rosters expanded Wednesday. The right-hander will serve mainly as a low-leverage reliever since he has a 4.29 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 21 innings across 20 appearances with Atlanta in 2021.

He owns a far better 2.21 ERA in 20.1 frames for Triple-A Gwinnett, backed by a strong 34.1 percent strikeout rate. Kyle Muller was optioned in a corresponding move.
