Webb has been on the shelf since Aug. 7 due to elbow inflammation and Saturday appears to be the first time he's played catch since. Initial indications were that Webb wouldn't need to miss much more than the minimum 15 days, but he seems to be at least a week or two away from returning.

Testing on Webb's right elbow showed no structural damage Saturday, and his stay on the injured list is expected to be short, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Webb was placed on the injured list Wednesday with inflammation in his throwing elbow, and further testing confirmed that he isn't dealing with anything severe. General manager Mike Elias said Saturday that Webb's elbow was "barking," but it seems that Webb could return shortly after the minimum 15 days. The Orioles called up Bryan Baker from Triple-A Norfolk to fill Webb's spot on the active roster.

The Orioles placed Webb on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right elbow inflammation.

It's not clear when Webb's elbow began bothering him, but his last appearance came Saturday, when he went 1.2 scoreless innings against the Guardians. Bryan Baker was called up from Triple-A Norfolk to take Webb's spot in the bullpen and on the 26-man active roster.

Cionel Perez then walked one and gave up two hits as the Marlins rallied for a 6-3 lead, with the decisive run ending up on Webb's line. Prior to Wednesday, Webb had allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out eight over seven scoreless innings in July. The right-hander is at a 2.64 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 44:22 K:BB while adding two saves and 12 holds through 44.1 innings this season.

Webb (1-4) allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit and one walk while striking out one over one inning to take the extra-innings loss versus the Phillies on Friday.

Alec Bohm delivered a two-run double in the 11th inning, and the Orioles couldn't produce a fourth comeback in the contest. That play ended an 11-inning scoreless streak for Webb, who has been steady in a setup role for Baltimore this season. Overall, he has a 1.95 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 29:15 K:BB while adding two saves and seven holds across 32.1 innings. Webb's 4.2 BB/9 is not outside of his usual level of performance but is still high, so he may have trouble sustaining his strong ratios over a full season.

He was called on early Saturday as Kyle Bradish struggled over 2.2 innings, but Webb was able to set the tone as the Orioles' five relievers gave up just four baserunners over the rest of the contest. Webb is at a 2.08 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 24:13 K:BB with two saves and five holds across 26 innings this season. He continues to see some work as a setup man while also often pitching in the middle innings.

Webb (0-3) allowed a run on one walk over two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss in Tuesday's game versus the Cardinals after it resumed Wednesday.

Webb walked Ivan Herrera before exiting the contest in the sixth inning. Keegan Akin proceeded to give up a two-run home run to Nolan Gorman, but Webb was responsible for the go-ahead run. Over seven innings in May, Webb has allowed five runs (three earned) with a 6:9 K:BB. He's still earned some high-leverage looks despite his shaky control, and he's sporting a 2.66 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 21:12 K:BB through 20.1 innings overall. Webb (0-2) allowed an unearned run on one hit over 1.1 innings to take the extra-inning loss versus the Blue Jays on Monday. He did not strike out or walk a batter.

Webb was charged with an unearned run when Keegan Akin allowed the initial runner to score in the 10th inning after he relieved Webb. The 30-year-old Webb hasn't given up an earned run in 6.2 innings, posting an 8:3 K:BB while allowing two unearned runs in that span. He's at a 1.47 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB through 18.1 innings overall while adding two saves and three holds this season.

Webb earned an extra-innings save against the Nationals on Wednesday, allowing an unearned run on one hit while striking out one batter over one inning.

EDGE Analysis

Usual Baltimore closer Craig Kimbrel was unsteady again Wednesday, as he was pulled with two outs in the ninth inning after giving up a solo homer and a walk. The game ultimately went into extra frames, and Webb was called upon to shut Washington down after the Orioles took a two-run lead in the top of the 12th. Luis Garcia opened the inning for Washington by doubling home the automatic runner, but Webb was able to bounce back by retiring the next three batters to earn a save. Kimbrel's hold on the closer role could be starting to slip given that he's given up six earned runs over his past five outings covering 2.1 frames, but if he does end up getting demoted at some point, Yennier Cano would likely be the favorite to take over the closer role, so Webb doesn't figure to see more than an occasional unpredictable save chance.

Webb earned the save Tuesday against the Yankees, striking out three in 1.1 perfect innings.

EDGE Analysis

Webb struck out Aaron Judge for the final out in the eighth inning before setting the Yankees down in order in the ninth, earning his first save this season. While the 30-year-old Webb was impressive against the heart of New York's batting order, he isn't likely to see many save chances going forward in Baltimore -- Craig Kimbrel (back) and Yennier Cano were both likely unavailable Tuesday. Webb sports a 2.03 ERA on the season with a 0.90 WHIP and 15:3 K:BB across 13.1 innings.
