DeGrom threw the equivalent of two innings during a batting practice session Sunday morning, Deesha Thosar of The New York Daily News reports.

The right-hander "retired" seven of the nine batters he faced and seemed to get stronger as the outing went on. With Noah Syndergaard (elbow) already lost for the season, the Mets need deGrom to maintain his Cy Young form, but it doesn't look like they're going to push him too quickly in summer camp as he stretches back out.

DeGrom allowed one run on one hit over four innings while striking out three in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals.

EDGE Analysis

His 2-1 pitch to Matt Carpenter in the fourth inning caught too much of the plate and was blasted over the left-field wall, but otherwise deGrom was untouchable Wednesday. The perennial Cy Young candidate now has a 1.29 ERA, 0.29 WHIP and 5:0 K:BB through seven spring frames as he gears up for Opening Day.

DeGrom threw 51 pitches in a simulated game Friday and gave up a home run to J.D. Davis on a hanging curveball, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The two-time Cy Young Award winner threw the curve only 2.9 percent of the time last season, but he's hoping to make it a bigger part of his arsenal. "I've been trying to work on the curveball a little bit in between," deGrom said afterward. "It's been good in the 'pen, but for some reason in the game it seems to pop up. I'm trying to have it come out of my hand like a fastball and try to throw one on the plate. That one I just hung." The last thing hitters want to hear is that the right-hander has another weapon at his disposal, but he's been getting by OK without a curveball, posting an ERA under 2.50, a WHIP under 1.00 and a K/9 above 11.0 in both of the last two seasons.

DeGrom threw approximately 30 pitches to Michael Conforto and Yoenis Cespedes during the session, inducing several swinging strikes from both hitters, per Thosar. The 31-year-old looks to have picked up right where he left off following back-to-back Cy Young-winning seasons, and he'll have a valid case for being the first pitcher off the board during fantasy drafts this spring.

The 31-year-old once again received 29 of 30 first place votes to beat out Hyun-Jin Ryu and Max Scherzer for the award. DeGrom recorded a 2.43 ERA with a 255:44 K:BB over 32 starts in 2019. His 11 wins are the second-lowest total by a Cy Young Award winner behind his total of 10 wins last season, but he proved once again last season how dominant he can be even with inconsistent run support.

DeGrom (11-8) picked up the win in Wednesday's 10-3 victory over the Marlins, giving up only two hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings while striking out seven.

EDGE Analysis

Once again, deGrom's record belies how well he pitched in a season. The right-hander finishes 2019 with a 2.43 ERA (second in the majors to Hyun-Jin Ryu), 0.97 WHIP (tops in the NL) and 255 strikeouts (also leading the NL), and he was especially strong down the stretch with the Mets trying in vain to reach the postseason, posting a 1.29 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 41:5 K:BB through 35 innings in September. A second Cy Young Award could be coming his way.

DeGrom (10-8) notched the win after giving up four hits while striking out nine over seven scoreless innings Friday night against the Reds.

EDGE Analysis

DeGrom was lights out Friday night, hurling 70 of 96 pitches for strikes on the way to victory. The reigning Cy Young winner has surrendered just one run over his last three outings, and he's worked seven frames in each of his last seven starts. DeGrom owns a sparkling 2.51 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 248 punchouts over 197 innings this year.

DeGrom didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Dodgers despite striking out eight in seven scoreless innings and allowing just three hits.

EDGE Analysis

DeGrom tossed a gem, allowing just four total baserunners (including a hit by pitch). Hyun-Jin Ryu was equally excellent, however, throwing seven scoreless frames of his own, though the Mets would eventually win the contest after both starters had left the game. DeGrom lowered his ERA to 2.61 with the start and will look to whittle it down further Friday in Cincinnati.

DeGrom (9-8) allowed a run on three hits and a walk over seven innings Monday, striking out 11 batters and earning the win over Arizona.

EDGE Analysis

Aside from a solo shot by Wilmer Flores, deGrom had the Diamondbacks completely dominated Monday. He lowered his ERA to 2.70 and bounced back after allowing four runs in each of his last two starts. The 31-year-old also owns a stellar 231:43 K:BB as he chases down a second straight NL Cy Young victory. DeGrom will face the Dodgers at home on Saturday.

DeGrom allowed four earned runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out six across seven innings Tuesday against the Nationals. He did not factor into the decision.

EDGE Analysis

DeGrom worked effectively through the seventh frame, as he allowed just two earned runs on six hits. However, he was sent back out in the eighth inning and he surrendered an infield single followed by a two-run home run to sour the outing. Despite allowing four earned runs in consecutive starts, deGrom still owns a strong 2.76 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 176 innings for the season. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, currently scheduled for Monday against Arizona.
