Wolf, a 6-foot-7 lefty, is extremely deceptive and boasts an above-average slider, but his fastball averaged 88.9 mph in his lone big-league start earlier this year. The 24-year-old prospect has never pitched at Triple-A, but he's logged a 4.08 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 105:22 K:BB in 88.1 innings across 18 starts this year at Double-A. The Pirates will likely continue developing him as a starter for now, but his below-average fastball velocity limits his long-term upside.

Wolf has allowed 10 earned runs on 12 hits and six walks over 10.2 innings covering two starts with Double-A San Antonio.

Wolf struck out 134 batters while posting a 4.01 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 23 outings with High-A Fort Wayne, and he was promoted to Double-A on Sept. 6. The 23-year-old has found the sledding less smooth since the promotion, giving up five earned runs in each of his two starts. Control has been a problem for Wolf in Double-A -- he's walked three batters in both appearances -- so he'll need to work on that aspect of his game, among others, before moving up to the next level.

Over his past four starts with High-A Fort Wayne, Wolf has posted a 0.82 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 26:6 K:BB over 22 innings.

EDGE Analysis

Wolf is 3-0 over that stretch, with the only no-decision coming in a one-run, 10-strikeout performance across six innings his last time out. The southpaw was a fourth-round selection by the Padres in the 2021 first-year player draft and stands at an imposing 6-foot-7, though his stuff is more crafty than overpowering. Wolf is 23 years old and could move up to Double-A soon if he continues to dominate High-A hitters.
