Leiter proved to be an effective starter during his first full year in the major leagues, though he did struggle with walks and was hit hard at times. Despite posting a superb .222 opponent batting average, Leiter managed a more modest 3.86 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 148:67 K:BB across 151.2 frames.

Leiter (9-10) was charged with the loss Saturday against the Marlins, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk in 5.2 innings. He struck out four.

The eight hits allowed tied a season high for Leiter, who permitted greater than three runs for the first time since his June 17 start against the Royals. The right-hander has still emerged as a reliable member of the Texas rotation for the most part in 2025, throwing at least five innings in 19 of his 28 outings. Leiter's final appearance of the year is set to come next weekend in Cleveland, where he'll carry a 3.92 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 138:66 K:BB over 144.2 frames.

Leiter gave up a two-run home run to Zach Cole in the fifth inning just after the Rangers had grabbed their first lead of the game. Leiter was then charged with two more runs in the seventh, though mistakes by the Rangers' defense throughout the game allowed the right-hander to still secure a quality start. He's given up no more than three earned runs in each of his last 15 starts, though six of those outings have been shorter than five innings. Leiter is at a decent 3.82 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 134:65 K:BB through 139 innings across 27 starts this season. He is tentatively projected for a home matchup versus the Marlins this weekend.

Leiter didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Brewers, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts across 4.2 innings.

Leiter's seven hits allowed were his most in 12 starts, and his four Ks were his second fewest during that stretch. Tuesday's outing snapped a streak of three consecutive quality starts. Leiter (9-8) took the loss Wednesday as the Rangers were downed 2-0 by the Diamondbacks, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out eight.

The 25-year-old right-hander delivered his third straight quality start, and eighth of the season, on 99 pitches (64 strikes), but Leiter got no run support from the Texas offense. In nine outings since the All-Star break, Leiter has posted a 2.66 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 57:24 K:BB over 47.1 innings as he establishes himself as a key part of the team's rotation plans for the present and future, Leiter is scheduled to make his next start at home early next week against the Brewers.

Leiter had some struggles with short starts earlier in August, but he closed out the month with a pair of wins, both of which were quality starts. The 25-year-old is projected to make his next start at Arizona.

Leiter (8-7) earned the win against the Guardians on Saturday, allowing two hits while striking out 10 across seven scoreless innings. He did not issue a walk.

Leiter entered Saturday's game having issued at least two walks in eight straight starts while failing to reach the fifth inning in two of his last three outings. However, the 25-year-old right-hander was in total control against Cleveland, yielding just two singles while recording a career-high 10 strikeouts. It was the first time he took a scoreless outing past the sixth frame, and the Rangers' bullpen kept the Guardians off the board over the last two innings to complete the shutout. Saturday's efforts lowered Leiter's ERA and WHIP to 3.81 and 1.31, respectively, across 115.2 innings, and his 111 strikeouts is third most on the Rangers behind Jacob deGrom (148) and Nathan Eovaldi (129). Leiter is slated to make his next start on the road against the Athletics next weekend.

Limiting free passes remains a major issue for Leiter, who walked multiple batters in his eighth consecutive start. Leiter has a shaky 3.62 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 43:25 K:BB across 37.1 innings since the beginning of July, but he's next set to face a Guardians team that has an underwhelming .650 OPS since the beginning of August.

The only damage against Leiter came in the third inning, when Blaze Alexander clubbed a solo home run. The long ball snapped Leiter's streak of three consecutive starts without allowing a homer. Leiter threw 58 of his 91 pitches for strikes and walked fewer than three batters for the first time in six outings. The 25-year-old will take a 3.94 ERA and 96:54 K:BB into his next start, which is scheduled to come early next week against Kansas City.

Leiter came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Yankees, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and four walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out three.

EDGE Analysis

The young righty needed threw only 33 of 68 pitches for strikes before getting the hook, as Leiter failed to complete at least five innings for the third time in six starts since the beginning of July. Despite those struggles, he's still managed to post a respectable 3.45 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 28.2 innings over that stretch, albeit with a 1.46 WHIP and 20 walks. Leiter will look to improve his efficiency in his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Diamondbacks.
