Flaherty has been scratched from his start Sunday against the Cubs due to hip discomfort, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty worked 6.1 innings in his previous outing, so it's unclear when the issue popped up. Assuming it's a short-term absence, the Cardinals shouldn't have an issue filling his spot in the rotation as they have only two games in a five-day stretch that began Thursday. No starter has officially been announced in Flaherty's place.

Flaherty (4-5) earned the win Monday, allowing six runs on 10 hits and one walk over 6.1 innings against the Nationals. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty allowed five runs through the first two frames, but he was able to keep the Cardinals within striking distance by tossing four straight scoreless innings before getting into trouble again in the seventh. It was just the third time all season that the right-hander had recorded an out in the seventh inning. Despite earning the win Monday, Flaherty has struggled over his last two starts, allowing 20 hits and 12 earned runs with a 8:4 K:BB across 10.2 innings. Before that, he'd allowed three or fewer runs in six straight starts, posting a 2.06 ERA and 1.37 WHIP during that stretch. Flaherty will look to get back on track in his next outing, which is tentatively scheduled during the Cardinals' two-game set versus the Cubs in London.

Flaherty (3-5) took the loss Tuesday as the Cardinals were routed 11-3 by the Giants, coughing up six runs on 10 hits and three walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander extended his streak of starts without serving up a homer to six, but keeping the ball in the park didn't do him much good Tuesday as the Giants banged out eight singles and two doubles off him. Considering Flaherty had a 1.50 ERA and 33:13 K:BB in 30 innings over those five prior outings, this performance doesn't appear to herald a return to his shakier early-season form. The 27-year-old will look to put the bad night behind him and get back into a groove in his next start, likely to come early next week on the road against the Nationals.

Flaherty allowed three hits and five walks while striking out eight over six shutout innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty has walked at least four batters in five of his 13 starts this season, but he's 1-1 with three no-decisions in those outings. He was a little less dominant than opposing pitcher Jon Gray, who threw a complete game, but Flaherty was able to keep a challenging lineup in check. He hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his last six starts, and he's given up one run or less in four of them. For the season, he's at a 4.15 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP and 72:40 K:BB through 69.1 innings. The elevated walk rate remains a concern, one Flaherty will look to get back under control in a projected home start versus the Giants next week.

Flaherty didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 7-5 loss to the Pirates, allowing one run on six hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander continues to turn his season around. Flaherty gave up one run or less for the third time in his last four starts, exiting the game in line for his fourth win after 101 pitches (61 strikes), but the Cardinals' bullpen fell apart. Over his last five outings, Flaherty has a 2.48 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 28:13 K:BB through 29 innings, He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, likely to come on the road next week against the Rangers.

Flaherty allowed one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out four batters over seven innings in a no-decision against Cleveland on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty has struggled mightily with free passes this season -- he entered Saturday with 33 walks over 51 innings -- so it was a a big step in the right direction for him to walk just one batter in the outing. The improved control helped the right-hander tie his season high with seven innings, and he picked up just his third quality start over 11 appearances. Flaherty induced only six swinging strikes and posted a modest four punchouts, but this was nonetheless one of his best starts of the campaign. Though his 4.81 season ERA is nothing to celebrate, it's trending in the right direction again after ballooning to 6.29 following a 2.1 inning, 10-run blowup against the Angels on May 4.

Flaherty allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty has walked four or more batters in four of his 10 starts this season, but he'd done so only once in his last six outings. The Dodgers were able to run up his pitch count quickly, and he exited with 103 pitches (61 strikes) while failing to qualify for the win. The right-hander is now at a 5.29 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 54:33 K:BB through 51 innings this year. He's projected to make his next start on the road in Cleveland.

Flaherty (3-4) earned the win over Milwaukee on Monday, pitching seven scoreless innings during which he allowed three hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty had been struggling mightily entering Monday, allowing 18 runs (17 earned) and walking eight batters over his previous 12 innings. He turned things around by limiting the Brewers to three singles and two walks while posting a season-high 10 punchouts. Flaherty racked up 17 swinging strikes in the outing, and he completed seven frames for the first time this season en route to just his second quality start. While this was a very positive start for the veteran, he still has an unimpressive 5.24 ERA on the season. He'll try to build upon this outing in his next start, which is lined up to come against the Dodgers this weekend.

Flaherty allowed three runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out three over five innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty has walked five or more batters in three of his eight starts this season, though he'd seemingly gotten the issue under control recently. He avoided taking a third straight loss Tuesday, but it was still a less-than-impressive outing. The right-hander is at a 6.18 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 39:27 K:BB across 39.1 innings. He's tentatively projected for a tough home start versus the Brewers next week.

Flaherty (hand) is listed as the Cardinals' probable starting pitcher for Tuesday's game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
EDGE Analysis
Though Flaherty was struck on his left hand by a comebacker in his most recent start last Thursday against the Angels, he didn't suffer any sort of significant injury and was pulled from the contest mostly for performance-related reasons, as he surrendered 10 earned runs over just 2.1 innings. Flaherty will thus be good to go on his normal four days' rest to take the hill Tuesday, but a road matchup against the Cubs along with his dreadful numbers this season (6.29 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 36:22 K:BB in 34.1 innings) no longer make him the must-start fantasy option he has been for most of his career.
