Ian Stewart collected two of just six Rockies hits in their 2-0 loss to the Nationals on Sunday. Rather amazingly, the two-hit day was his first of the season, upping his average from .079 to .106. This is the first time all season his average has been above .100. That should tell you all you need to know about his fantasy prospects going forward.

Rockies recalled 3B Ian Stewart from Triple-A Colorado Springs. As expected. Stewart will make the start at third base Tuesday night while Ty Wigginton plays left field and Charlie Blackmon starts in center. He'll likely move behind Wigginton on the depth chart once Carlos Gonzalez is ready to return to the starting lineup in the next day or so.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post suspects that Ian Stewart will merely act as bench depth when he's recalled. Stewart is expected to be added to Colorado's active 25-man roster at some point Tuesday, but he's not going to take over starting duties at third base. The Rockies simply need a bit of depth with sluggers Troy Tulowitzki (quad) and Carlos Gonzalez (wrist) still ailing.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that Ian Stewart is being promoted back to the majors. Stewart has posted an impressive .269/.356/.581 batting line in 44 games this season at the Triple-A level and will try to carry some of that momentum with him back to the major leagues. The 41-44 Rockies sure could use the help.

Ian Stewart is batting just .140 with a .279 slugging percentage over his past 10 games for Triple-A Colorado Springs. He has not taken a walk while striking out 13 times in that timespan. Stewart is still only 26 years of age, and he was hitting well before his recent skid, but he's just about out of chances to prove himself. He's a poor stash in NL-only leagues and deeper mixed formats, particularly since Ty Wigginton is playing well at third base for the Rockies.
