The Athletics transferred Hoglund (hip) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Jack Perkins, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Las Vegas. Hoglund is slated to miss the rest of the season after he underwent surgery on his left hip June 13.

Hoglund (hip) is undergoing surgery Friday and is expected to miss the rest of the 2025 season, Hoglund's agent announced.
EDGE Analysis
Hoglund was placed on the 15-day injured list June 2 due to a left hip impingement, and the injury will require surgery. The procedure is expected to end his 2025 season, but the expectation is that he'll make a full recovery for the 2026 campaign. In six starts with the A's this season, Hoglund logged a 6.40 ERA and a 23:11 K:BB across 32.1 innings. His long-term absence should mean more starting opportunities for Mitch Spence or Jacob Lopez.

Hoglund was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday due to a left hip impingement.
EDGE Analysis
Hoglund was torched for eight runs on 10 hits in his previous start Saturday, though it's unclear if he suffered the injury during this outing or if this is an issue he's been dealing with for some time. Elvis Alvarado was promoted to the big leagues in one of the team's corresponding moves, but another move is presumably in the works considering Alvarado hasn't made a start this year.

Hoglund (1-3) took the loss Saturday, surrendering eight runs on 10 hits -- including four home runs -- and two walks over six innings as the A's fell 8-7 to the Blue Jays. He struck out only one.
EDGE Analysis
Long balls in the first, second, third and fifth innings sent the rookie right-hander to his third defeat in his last four starts, with Hoglund serving up multiple homers in each loss. Through his first 32.1 big-league innings, he's been taken deep 10 times, leading to a 6.40 ERA to go along with a 1.52 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB. It's not clear how much longer the A's will stick with the 25-year-old in the rotation, but he's currently scheduled to make his next start at home next week against the Twins.

Hoglund didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Philadelphia, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks across five innings. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Hoglund set a season low in strikeouts Sunday and walked multiple batters for a third consecutive outing. The rookie's ERA has ballooned to 5.13 through five starts despite allowing just three runs over 11.1 innings during his first two appearances. Hoglund notched a 10:1 K:BB in his first two outings, but now owns a 22:9 K:BB overall. He'll look to bounce back next time out, though he's tentatively scheduled for a matchup against the Blue Jays in Toronto, who average 4.54 runs per game at home.

Hoglund (1-2) allowed five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five over 4.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Hoglund continues to have trouble with the long ball -- he allowed two home runs Tuesday after giving up three of them in his previous start against the Dodgers. The 25-year-old appeared to run out of steam in the fifth inning, squandering the lead the Athletics had generated in the fourth. Hoglund is now at a 5.06 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB across 21.1 innings over four starts. His next start is tentatively projected to be at home versus the Phillies this weekend. Despite his struggles, Hoglund should have a little security in the rotation for the rest of the month after J.T. Ginn (quadriceps) returned to the injured list Tuesday.

Hoglund (1-1) took the loss Wednesday, giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks over 5.1 innings against the Dodgers. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Hoglund allowed just three runs across his first two MLB starts, but Los Angeles tagged him for three homers Wednesday to hand him his first loss. Another major difference from the right-hander's first two outings were free passes, as he entered Wednesday with only one walk issued. With J.T. Ginn (elbow) potentially nearing his return from the injured list, Hoglund's time in the Athletics' rotation could be running out despite a 3.78 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 15:4 K:BB over 16.1 innings.

Hoglund did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Mariners, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Hoglund was sharp early Wednesday, as he held Seattle scoreless through his first four innings. However, he'd allow a run in the fifth before walking two batters in the sixth, both of whom would come around to score against the A's bullpen. Despite the shaky finish, Hoglund's gotten off to a strong start in his big-league career, posting a 2.38 ERA with 10 strikeouts and just one walk through his first two starts (11.1 innings). The 25-year-old Hoglund certainly appears to have done enough to remain in the A's rotation -- he'd line up for a tough road matchup with the Dodgers in his next start.

Hoglund is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Mariners in Sacramento.
EDGE Analysis
The 25-year-old righty will be awarded a second turn through the rotation following an excellent MLB debut this past Friday, when he limited the Marlins to one earned run on six hits and no walks while striking out seven over six innings en route to picking up the win. Oakland will likely have a spot in the rotation available for Hoglund as long as J.T. Ginn (elbow) remains on the injured list.

Hoglund (1-0) earned the win Friday against Miami after allowing one run on six hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out seven.
EDGE Analysis
Making his major-league debut, the 2021 first-rounder mostly cruised through Miami's lineup. Dane Myers did take him deep for a solo homer to lead off the sixth inning, but the Athletics took a 6-0 lead in the fifth frame to give Hoglund plenty of run support. The right-hander produced a 2.43 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 30:7 K:BB over 29.2 innings at Triple-A Las Vegas this year, and he almost certainly earned another chance in the rotation with Friday's impressive performance. Hoglund's next turn lines up for next week in a tough test versus the Mariners, who rank fourth in the majors in home runs (48).
