Smith signed a minor league contract with the Braves on Tuesday, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. With Ian Thomas called up to the big club, the Braves had a hole on their Triple-A roster, so they went out and signed Smith for depth. The 31-year-old lefty has posted a 4.43 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 378:188 K:BB in parts of eight seasons at the Triple-A level.
