Bird (ankle) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Bird has already missed around 60 days with a lingering ankle injury, so the move was made to clear room on the 40-man roster for Chris Carter, whose contract was purchased from Triple-A on Thursday. The 24-year-old remains without a timetable for his return, and at this point, it seems the Yankees are unsure if he'll be able return at all before the end of the season.

Manager Joe Girardi said there is concern about Bird's (ankle) status for the rest of the season, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bird just can't seem to shake the ankle injury that has bothered him all season. He recently received a cortisone shot, but the 24-year-old is apparently still experiencing some soreness, leading to some concerns from the Yankees clubhouse. There has been no word on his next step, but the Yankees will likely continue to tread cautiously with the young first baseman, even if it means shutting him down for the rest of the season.

Bird (ankle) was able to run on the field Sunday, Daniel Popper of the New York Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bird received a cortisone shot earlier in the week after suffering a setback in his recovery, so it's an encouraging sign that he's able to ramp up the physical activity. There's no set timetable to proceed from this point, but Bird already has 12 rehab games under his belt before getting shutdown, so he may not need as much time to get back into shape once he sets out on a rehab assignment again.

Bird (ankle/knee) received a cortisone shot after meeting with a specialist earlier this week and could resume baseball activities in 3-to-5 days, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Yankees are hopeful the cortisone shot is all Bird needs to resolve the bruising in his ankle and knee that resulted in him being pulled off his rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last week. If Bird is able to take part in fielding drills and batting practice without any complications in the next few days, he could be cleared to start up the rehab assignment again, but it's looking rather unlikely that he'll return until July.

Bird (ankle/knee) will see a foot specialist on Tuesday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Joe Girardi commented that Bird has seen just about as many doctors as he can, and this seems to be the last effort to figure out what's wrong with the young first baseman now. Bird's rehab program is on hold for the time being, and the next steps should become clear following Tuesday's visit. Chris Carter will continue to assume primary first baseman duties in his stead.

Bird was returned from his rehab assignment due to a right knee contusion.
EDGE Analysis
This is worrisome as Bird has been out for a prolonged amount of time due to an ankle bruise, but now he is battling through a knee ailment as well. As such, the Yankees will scale back his activity and have him meet with team doctors Friday, at which point there will be a clearer timetable for his potential return. In any case, it appears that Bird will be out for at least the remainder of the Yankees' current west coast road swing and could remain sidelined until late-June. Look for further updates on Bird following his visit with team doctors Friday.

Bird (ankle) experienced a setback in his rehab and will be examined by team doctors Friday, Erik Boland of Newsday Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
General manager Brian Cashman used the term "pulled the plug" when it came to what was happening as a result of this development, which certainly isn't a good sign. The young first baseman reportedly called the training staff after his right leg didn't feel right, so it's unclear if this is still part of his prior injury or if a new ailment cropped up recently. More information should be available after Friday's doctor visit. Look for Chris Carter to continue manning first base full-time while Bird is recovering.

Bird (ankle) might remain at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre even after he's activated off the DL, Mike Mazzeo of the New York Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bird appears to be on track to be activated by the end of the week, and while it was assumed he would rejoin the big league club and take over the starting role at first base, that now appears to not be a guarantee. The 24-year-old was slashing a dreadful .100/.250/.200 in 19 games before being hurt and he's hitting just .143 during his rehab stint at Triple-A, so there's still a possibility Bird stays down in the minors until he finds more success at the plate.

Manager Joe Girardi hinted Sunday that Bird (ankle) likely won't be activated from the 10-day disabled list Monday, when the Yankees open a four-game series with the Angels in Los Angeles, Mark Fischer of the Newark Star-Ledger reports. "Our people have determined that he's not ready to come back yet," Girardi said.
EDGE Analysis
Girardi had stated prior to the weekend that Bird, who has gone 3-for-13 with two walks and one strikeout during a three-game rehab stint with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, was "very close" to rejoining the Yankees, but it appears the organization would prefer to have him rack up some more at-bats in the minors following a month-plus layoff due to the right ankle bruise. Once activated, Bird should quickly displace the struggling Chris Carter as the team's everyday first baseman.

Bird (ankle) will move his rehab to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, Brendan Kuty of NJ.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
He has been rehabbing with High-A Tampa, and with the move to Triple-A imminent, he appears to be nearing a return to the big leagues. Prior to the injury, Bird looked like this year's faux spring training gold, as his draft price crept up throughout March and he proceeded to hit .100 with 22 strikeouts and one home run in 60 big-league at-bats.
