Sheets' removal appears to have nothing to do with an injury, so he should be good to go while Andrew Vaughn (back) is unavailable.

Sheets is no longer listed in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rangers.

EDGE Analysis

Sheets was replaced in the lineup by Tim Anderson, who will start at shortstop and push Romy Gonzalez to Sheets' spot in right field. It's unclear if Sheets is dealing with an injury or if the White Sox have simply decided that Anderson is in fact ready to play every day despite previously indicating he'd be eased back into action upon his return from a hamstring injury.

Sheets made a couple of starts in the last three games and was the third man to start in left field for Eloy Jimenez, who returned as the designated hitter following a two-game absence due to a knee injury. While Jimenez was unavailable for duty in the field, Andrew Vaughn, Billy Hamilton and now Sheets started in left for the White Sox. With Jimenez back, Sheets will get fewer opportunities.

Sheets went 2-for-3 with two home runs, four RBI and a hit-by-pitch in Wednesday's win over the Pirates.

The 25-year-old was recalled Wednesday from Triple-A Charlotte and he didn't wait long to make an impact. He launched a three-run homer in the fourth inning off of the Pirates starter Max Kranick and another solo shot in the eighth off of reliever Duane Underwood. The outfielder will likely function mostly as a bench bat for the White Sox the rest of the way but he does provide the occasional long ball, having now hit eight homers in 30 games in the majors this season.

Sheets was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.

Sheets spent just over three weeks in the minors and slashed .303/.385/.591 with four home runs, seven doubles, 13 runs and 13 RBI across 19 games at Triple-A Charlotte after he was sent down Aug. 9. However, he'll rejoin the major-league club to provide depth since active rosters expanded Wednesday.

An already crowded Chicago outfield became even more packed Monday with Luis Robert (hip) coming back from the 60-day injured list, so Sheets likely wouldn't have been in store for steady at-bats had he stuck around with the big club. Since the organization still views the 25-year-old as one of its top prospects, Sheets will head to Charlotte to play on an everyday basis and continue his development as a corner outfielder after playing mostly at first base throughout his time in the minors.
