Richards was forced to leave Wednesday's start after the conclusion of the second inning, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
There has been no word at this time as to why Richards was removed from his outing but the right-hander was experiencing a loss in velocity of about two mph, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Southern California News Group. Expect an update on his status in the coming hours.

Richards didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Rangers, allowing one unearned run on one hit and one walk over seven innings while striking out nine.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander pitched more than well enough to earn his fifth win of the season, but Richards and the Angels were undone by a late bullpen collapse. Saturday's outing continues a remarkable string of poor defensive performances behind the 30-year-old -- Richards has given up 23 runs over his last 35 innings and seven starts, but incredibly only 12 of those runs counted as earned on his ledger, allowing him to carry a 3.25 ERA into his next start Friday in Minnesota.

Richards (4-4) allowed three runs on three hits and five walks while striking out three across 2.1 innings as he took the loss Sunday against the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
Richards struggled with his command, as he surrendered five walks and threw two costly wild pitches in a three-run third inning for New York. He's been tabbed with the loss in each of his last three games and has accrued a 3.67 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with 60 strikeouts across 54 innings. He'll look to redeem himself in his next start, which figures to come Friday against Texas.

Richards will make his next start Sunday against the Yankees in New York with the Angels opting to skip Shohei Ohtani's turn through the rotation, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Angels have been using a six-man rotation throughout the season in an effort to afford Ohtani more rest between starts, but the organization is apparently still eager to manage the two-way rookie's workload even more carefully. It's unclear when Ohtani will be added back to the Angels' pitching schedule, but his absence for the time being will leave the team with a five starters. Because Richards started the first of the Angels' six games this week in Toronto, he'll naturally be the top choice to fill in for Ohtani since he'll be available Sunday on four days' rest. The surprise two-start week might boost Richards' strikeout totals more than fantasy owners initially anticipated, but he'll be at risk of more ERA and WHIP damage while facing a New York offense that has posted a collective .832 OPS at Yankee Stadium in 2018.

Richards (4-3) was charged with five runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks over five innings in a loss to the Blue Jays on Tuesday. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
A Chris Young error in the first inning allowed two runs to score and Richards allowed a homer to the next batter he faced, putting the Angels in an early 5-0 hole. He avoided any major damage to his ledger and Richards now has a 3.31 ERA and 1.26 WHIP on the season. The strikeouts have been down in his last few outings (12 over his last 17.1 frames), but the walks have come down too. He will look take advantage of a favorable road matchup in Detroit next week.

Richards (4-2) held the Astros to just two unearned runs on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts over seven innings in a tough luck loss Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Richards was outdueled by Justin Verlander, who tossed a complete game shutout, but Richards was fantastic against an excellent lineup in the Astros. He was able to induce weak contact with his fastball and drew all nine of his swinging strikes on 43 sliders, the off-speed pitch that has been his bread and butter this season. For the second time in three starts, Richards held his opponents without an earned run, and since a disastrous start against the Yankees on April 28 (1.2 IP, 9 R, 5 ER), Richards owns a 1.42 ERA with a pristine 16:2 K:BB.

Richards (4-1) got the win against the Mariners on Friday, giving up no runs on four hits over 6.2 innings, striking out eight and walking one as the Angels prevailed 5-0.
EDGE Analysis
After he was lit up by the Yankees for five earned over 1.2 innings in his last start, Richards bounced back by shutting out the Mariners and grabbing his fourth win in seven starts to start the season. He now has a 3.93 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP and opponents are hitting just .209 off him through 34.1 innings.

Richards (3-1) took the loss against the Yankees on Saturday, surrendering nine runs (five earned) on five hits and three walks over only 1.2 innings while striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
A Zack Cozart error in the first inning helped take the sting out of Richards' ERA, but there was little positive about this performance from the right-hander -- the Yankees batted around in each of the first two frames to chase him from the game. Richards will look to rebound in his next start Friday in Seattle.

Richards (3-0) allowed two earned runs on five hits while walking one and striking out 11 across six innings to earn the win Saturday against the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Richards' ability to record 11 strikeouts suggests that he was able to work through the Giants' lineup with ease, but that wasn't the case as they fouled off 22 of his pitches as opposed to swinging and missing on only 12 occasions. While it still took him 104 pitches to work six innings, he was able to hit that threshold for the first time this season and it wasn't a coincidence that this start was also the first time he walked fewer than three batters in a start. If Richards' can limit his walks, he is capable of posting this type of stat-line consistently.

Richards (2-0) allowed one earned run on one hit while walking three and striking out five across five innings to earn the win Saturday against the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Richards had mixed success in his outing prior to being pulled after five innings and just 73 pitches. The early hook likely had to do with the fact that he had three wild pitches in the fifth inning alone, but there is no indication that he suffered an injury. Richards has now had similar results in all four of his starts this season, flashing his ability to get strikeouts while also struggling with command. That has held him back, but if it improves as the season wears on he should be able to pitch deeper into games.
