Tatis went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in Friday's 8-3 loss to the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Tatis cut the Padres' deficit to 4-2 with a 441-foot blast off Kyle Harrison in the sixth inning before smacking a second homer off Tyler Rogers in the eighth. The two homers were the first of the season for Tatis, who's gone 6-for-16 over his first four games. He slashed .257/.322/.449 with 25 home runs, 78 RBI and 29 steals in 141 games last season.

Tatis went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Sunday's Cactus League win over Seattle.
EDGE Analysis
Tatis went 0-for-9 with two walks and an RBI through his first five games this spring, but he got off the schneid with a two-run homer against Mariners starter Luis Castillo in the third inning Sunday. Padres manager Mike Shildt said in early February that Tatis is slated to remain in right field this season, dispelling some rumblings that the ex-shortstop could shift over to center. Tatis is looking to build upon a solid but not elite 2023 campaign during which he slashed .257/.322/.449 with 25 homers, 78 RBI and 29 stolen bases while playing in a career-high 141 games.

Padres manager Mike Shildt said last week that Tatis is "strongly penciled in to play right field," Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
The skipper noted that things can eventually change, but he has no expectation at this juncture that Tatis will play a position other than right field. Tatis has been mentioned previously as a possibility in center field and seemingly has the athleticism to do it, but the 25-year-old has indicated a preference to remain in right and it looks like his wish will be granted. Also worth noting is that, with the dimensions at Petco Park, right field is a more difficult spot to play there than it is at most other venues.

The Padres' preference is to keep Tatis in right field next season rather than moving him to center field, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
San Diego hasn't ruled out shifting Tatis to center, depending on how or if they're able to address the position this offseason. They would like to keep him in right, though, and that's also Tatis' preference, per Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune. Tatis was the National League's Platinum Glove winner in right field in 2023, and, given the dimensions in right at Petco Park, it's arguably as important or even more so of a position than center field in the Padres' case.

He's up to 29 thefts in 33 attempts this season, putting him one shy of reaching the 30-steal mark for the first time. Tatis has added a solid .260/.326/.459 slash line with 25 home runs, 77 RBI, 87 runs scored, 32 doubles and a triple over 134 games.

He's added a .265/.330/.468 slash line, 25 stolen bases, 71 RBI and 80 runs scored over 120 contests. Over the last five games, Tatis has returned to batting second after hitting cleanup for a four-game span from Aug. 28-31.
