He came on with runners on the corners in the eighth inning but escaped the jam by getting Chris Iannetta to groundout to second base. Vazquez then sat down the top of the Rockies' order to secure the win for the Pirates. The 27-year-old now owns a solid 3.00 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 65:18 K:BB across 48 innings this season.

Vazquez got the save against the Phillies on Sunday, striking out the side without allowing a baserunner in a scoreless ninth inning to close out the Pirates' 4-1 victory.

That's now 18 saves in 22 opportunities for the 27-year-old left-hander, who required just 15 pitches to strike out all three Phillies he faced to lock down Pittsburgh's victory. He's now got a 3.38 ERA and 1.31 WHIP through 37.1 innings, so Vazquez hasn't been quite as dominant this year as he was in his lights-out campaign of 2017, but he's still a reliable source of saves and strikeouts with a firm grasp on the closer role in Pittsburgh.

Vazquez got the save against the Padres on Friday, striking out both the batters he faced in his two-thirds of an inning to close out the Pirates' 6-3 victory.

EDGE Analysis

It was the 16th save of the season for the left-hander, who hasn't blown a save since a four-run meltdown against the Cardinals on May 31. His 3.78 ERA still isn't at the level of his ballistic 1.67 mark from last season, and it might not get there unless he rips off a prolonged scoreless streak, but Vazquez should nonetheless remain a reliable source of saves as the primary go-to ninth inning option in Pittsburgh's bullpen.

Vazquez (3-2) got the win Wednesday, tossing two shutout innings with two strikeouts and one hit allowed against the Mets.

Vazquez was the benefactor of Pittsburgh's late comeback, as they rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the ninth inning to win 5-3. The 26-year-old has enjoyed a terrific month of June, working to a 1.74 ERA with 17 strikeouts versus five walks over 10.1 innings to go along with five saves and a win.

Though he still carries a 4.11 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP after a rough start, the left-hander has been scored upon just once in the last eight outings, piling up 15 strikeouts during that span.

Vazquez notched his 14th save Monday, striking out two batters in a scoreless ninth inning against Milwaukee.

He shook off a leadoff single to Christian Yelich, striking out Ryan Braun and Eric Thames en route to his third save in six days. Vazquez threw 15 of 20 pitches for strikes while featuring a fastball clocked between 95-98 mph.
