Everett Teaford was terrific in his first major league start Sunday, tossing five scoreless innings on three hits and a walk in a 2-1 win over the Mariners.
He struck out five and picked up the first win of his MLB career. Teaford posted decent numbers as a starter in the minors, but he doesn't have the repertoire to suggest continued success is likely. He has, however, almost surely earned some more starts. His next one should come against the White Sox.

Royals recalled LHP Everett Teaford from Triple-A Omaha.
Teaford pitched well for the Royals earlier this season, posting a 2.84 ERA and 1.26 WHIP while holding left-handed batters to a .158 average. He could be sent back down shortly after the break when Danny Duffy comes back up, but he'll get a handful of games to show he should stick.

The move clears a spot for Bruce Chen on the Royals' 25-man roster. A rookie, Teaford showed glimpses of promise during his first major-league go-round, posting a 2.84 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 5/6 K/BB ratio in 12 2/3 innings of work. He's held lefties to a .158 average.
