Twins designated OF Erik Komatsu for assignment. Claimed off waivers earlier this month, Komatsu batted just .219/.297/.219 over 37 plate appearances with the Twins. The Rule 5 pick will go through waivers again but could wind up back with the Nationals.

A day after being picked up on waivers, Erik Komatsu went right into the Twins' starting lineup on Saturday and finished 0-for-3 in the loss to the Mariners. There are only so many outfielders worse than Ben Revere available, but damn the Twins if they're not going to try all of them. Komatsu doesn't figure to work out any better than Clete Thomas did.

Twins claimed OF Erik Komatsu off waivers from the Cardinals. Komatsu is a Rule 5 pick and will have to stick on the Twins' roster the rest of the season or be offered back to the Nationals. The 24-year-old batted 4-for-19 (.211) with two walks, two strikeouts and three runs scored in his time with St. Louis. He has some OBP skills, some speed and can play all three outfield positions, so he has a shot to hang around as a bench guy.

Cardinals designated OF Erik Komatsu for assignment. He was cleared to make room for Allen Craig's return from the disabled list. Komatsu, a Rule 5 pick, made the Cardinals' Opening Day roster and is 4-for-19 (.211) with two walks, two strikeouts and three runs scored. Assuming nobody picks him up off waivers, the 24-year-old will be offered back to the Nationals.

Rule 5 pick Erik Komatsu has made the Cardinals' Opening Day roster. Komatsu, who was selected from the Nationals in December's Rule 5 draft, is batting .280 (15-for-50) with two doubles, two triples, eight RBI and six stolen bases this spring. He'll add an element of speed to the Cardinals' bench. Shane Robinson was also told that he made the team, which means that Allen Craig (knee) will almost certainly begin the season on the disabled list.

Rule 5 pick Erik Komatsu went 2-for-4 with a triple Saturday against the Marlins. Komatsu isn't known for his power, but he has a couple of extra-base hits as part of a 4-for-12 start this spring. The speedy outfielder from the Nationals system is trying to win a spot on the St. Louis bench.

Cardinals selected OF Erik Komatsu from the Nationals in the Rule 5 draft. Komatsu was acquired by the Nationals from the Brewers at the trade deadline in the Jerry Hairston deal, but the Nats chose not to protect him. His ceiling is a fourth outfielder, but he's capable of playing all three outfield positions and sports a .302/.389/.434 batting line with 57 steals over his four minor league seasons. He could have a shot at some playing time in right field early on in the year if Allen Craig can't make it back from knee surgery in time.
