The clubs discussed the possibility of expanding the deal to include Aybar and some of the Cards' young pitching, but St. Louis ultimately decided against it. The Angels have no replacement lined up for Aybar, so they're probably asking for a bit more in return than he's really worth.

Aybar is under contract through 2016, while Vargas will hit free agency over the winter.
