Fryer was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger reports. Chris Herrmann was optioned to make room for Fryer, who was slashing .299/.385/.354 with one home run in 51 games at Triple-A before the call-up. Look for Fryer to get one or two starts at catcher per week while he is up with the Twins.

Fryer was sent to Triple-A Rochester, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. He lost the battle for the backup catcher role to Chris Herrmann. Fryer could be called up at some point this summer for his defense as a backup catcher, but his fantasy value is very limited given that he's never hit anywhere (.630 career OPS at Triple-A).

Fryer will compete with Chris Herrmann and Josmil Pinto for the backup catcher role this spring, manager Paul Molitor told MLB.com. Pinto would appear to have the lead as by far the best hitter of the three, but Fryer has a realistic shot at winning the job since he's the best defender. However, Fryer would offer almost no fantasy value in a back up role considering he's never hit at any level (.630 career OPS at Triple-A).

Fryer was outrighted to Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger reports. Fryer was originally expected to compete for a role backing up Kurt Suzuki after posting a .213 batting average over 81 plate appearances in 2014. Instead, the Twins will elect to use his spot on the 40-man roster for the recently signed Tim Stauffer. At 29 years old, Fryer's opportunities to be a steady contributor in the Majors may be drying up.

Twins recalled C/OF Eric Fryer from Triple-A Rochester. With Joe Mauer still battling concussion symptoms, and potentially being unable to get behind the plate for the remainder of the season, it made sense to have another catcher on the active roster. The 28-year-old Fryer hit .215/.339/.365 with five homers and 31 RBI in 65 games this season.
