Eric Chavez was diagnosed with a strained right oblique.
Chavez suffered the injury on a swing during his first plate appearance Thursday. These type of injuries tend to linger, so he'll almost certainly require a stint on the disabled list. The Diamondbacks are likely to go with Martin Prado at third base and Cliff Pennington at second base for now.

Eric Chavez left Thursday's game with an apparent injury.
Chavez was injured on a swing during his first plate appearance and had to be taken out of the game. The extent of the injury isn't yet known, but he was shown grabbing at his side and might be dealing with an oblique strain. The Diamondbacks should provide an update on his status soon.

Eric Chavez delivered an RBI single and a two-run double in the Diamondbacks' 5-3 victory over the Braves on Wednesday.
Both hits came off old A's teammate Tim Hudson. Playing more than anticipated with Aaron Hill sidelined, Chavez is batting .301 with four homers and 16 RBI in 85 at-bats, which is one reason the Diamondbacks are off to a nice start at 23-18.

Eric Chavez went 2-for-4 with a double and stole his first base since 2007 against the Dodgers on Tuesday.
Chavez swiped 47 bases during his first 10 big-league seasons, but he hadn't so much as attempted a steal in six years. So, he must be feeling pretty good this season. It's shows in his performance, what with him hitting .275 with four homers in 69 at-bats. We didn't agree with many of Kevin Towers' offseason moves, but his pickup of Chavez for $3 million was a very good one.

Eric Chavez cranked a solo homer in Monday's loss to the Giants.
Chavez's sixth inning blast off of Ryan Vogelsong in the sixth inning gave the D'Backs a two-run buffer at the time, but the Snakes' bullpen was unable to hold the lead. The veteran infielder is playing regularly since Aaron Hill's injury and has batted .225 with a couple homers and seven RBI this month.

Eric Chaves was replaced in the 13th inning Wednesday after getting hit in the hand by a pitch in the 12th.
Chavez stayed in to run, but the Diamondbacks replaced him with Josh Wilson on defense, something they wouldn't have done had the hand not been bothering him. Hopefully, he's just day-to-day.

John Gambadoro of 620 KTAR in Phoenix reports that the Diamondbacks have signed infielder Eric Chavez to a one-year, $3 million contract.
Chavez is expected to platoon with Chris Johnson at third base after batting .281/.348/.496 with 16 home runs and an .845 OPS this past season. With Chavez and Jeff Keppinger now off the board, the Yankees are quickly running out of stop-gap options for Alex Rodriguez at third base.

John Gambadoro of 620 KTAR in Phoenix reports that the Diamondbacks are interested in free agent infielder Eric Chavez.
Chavez is drawing plenty of interest following a resurgent 2012 season with the Yankees in which he batted .281/.348/.496 with 16 home runs and an .845 OPS. The Yankees are interested in bringing him back while the Red Sox have also been mentioned as a possibility. He would presumably share playing time with Chris Johnson at third base if he signs with Arizona.

Alex Speier of WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox are interested in Eric Chavez.
General manager Ben Cherington has said that he'd like to add a first baseman who can also play an additional position, and it appears Chavez is on his wish list. The 36-year-old batted .281/.348/.496 with 16 home runs for the Yankees in 2012, and they're also interested in retaining him.
