Clase has allowed two hits and struck out four batters over his first two Cactus League appearances.
EDGE Analysis
Clase saved 44 of his 56 opportunities last season, and while it wasn't the dominance he displayed in the previous two years, he was never at risk of losing ninth-inning duties. Clase should continue in the closer role this season. James Karinchak (shoulder) and Trevor Stephan (elbow) are already banged up in the spring, leaving Scott Barlow as the Guardians' top option for saves when Clase is unavailable.

Clase picked up the save Friday against the Tigers. He allowed one run on one hit and no walks with no strikeouts over one inning.
EDGE Analysis
Clase yielded a 391-foot solo homer to Spencer Torkelson to lead off the ninth inning before promptly retiring the next three Detroit batters. Although he has secured a career-high 44 saves, the Cleveland closer has struggled a bit this year, posting a career-worst 3.14 ERA and 8.0 K/9 (compared to a career 1.47 ERA and 9.3 K/9 prior to the season). Clase been especially shaky in September with a 4.63 ERA and 5.4 K/9 over 11.2 innings.

Clase picked up the save Wednesday against Cincinnati. He allowed one hit over a scoreless inning while not recording any strikeouts or walks.
EDGE Analysis
Clase allowed a hit to Noelvi Marte in the second at-bat after entering the contest with a one-run lead in the top of the ninth, but lucked out when Marte was thrown out trying to stretch it to a double. The right-handed reliever was then able to retire the next batter and secure his league-leading 43rd save of the season, needing only seven pitches in total to get through the frame. Clase has now converted four of his last five save attempts but he's also allowed at least one hit in five straight appearances.

Clase (3-9) blew the save but picked up the win in Friday's 9-8 victory over the Orioles, giving up two runs on two hits in an inning of relief. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander had Baltimore down to its final strike in the top of the ninth inning before hitting Anthony Santander with a pitch, followed by a single, a wild pitch and a double. Fortunately for Clase, Cleveland had one more burst of offense left in it in the bottom of the frame. The closer leads the majors with 42 saves but also has an MLB-high 12 blown saves, with Colorado setup man Jake Bird being the only other reliever in double digits, and Clase's 3.18 ERA this year is nearly two runs higher than his 1.36 mark from 2022.

Clase picked up the save Thursday against the Orioles. He allowed a hit and a walk while striking out two over a scoreless inning.
EDGE Analysis
After the first two Orioles reached safely in the ninth, Clase rebounded to strike out his next two batters before coaxing a game-ending flyout from Gunnar Henderson. Clase remains the lone closer with over 40 saves on the year. He's allowed just one earned run in his last six outings (five innings), lowering his ERA to 2.97 with a 1.15 WHIP and 63:16 K:BB across 69.2 innings this season.

Clase picked up the save Saturday against Texas. He allowed one hit and struck out one over a scoreless inning.
EDGE Analysis
Clase now owns four more saves than any other closer in baseball with 41 despite having blown two of his last five save opportunities. The 25-year-old has solidified himself as one of baseball's best ninth-inning arms, having corralled 40 or more saves in back-to-back seasons while owning a career ERA of 1.92.

Clase pitched a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Clase needed 13 pitches (eight strikes) to complete the clean inning just a day after he blew a save in the 10th inning. This was Clase's 40th save of the season -- he's the first to reach that mark in 2023, though he's also blown a major-league-leading 11 saves in 69 appearances. The Guardians closer has allowed six runs (four earned) over his last 9.1 innings and has a 3.11 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 58:15 K:BB through 66.2 innings overall.

Clase (2-9) failed to record an out Monday versus the Giants, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits to take a blown save and the loss.
EDGE Analysis
Clase gave up back-to-back RBI singles to Blake Sabol and LaMonte Wade, surrendering the one-run lead the Guardians had taken in the top of the 10th inning. This was Clase's second blown save in his last three appearances, and he's up to 11 blown saves while converting a major-league leading 39 saves this season. He's at a 3.15 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 58:15 K:BB through 66.2 innings. Despite his struggles this year, the Guardians have stood by the 25-year-old in the closer role throughout the campaign, and it seems unlikely he'd lose the gig this late in the year with the team's playoff hopes already quite faint.

Clase pitched a perfect inning to earn the save in Friday's 6-3 win over the Angels. He did not strike out a batter.
EDGE Analysis
Clase needed 15 pitches to complete the clean inning just a day after he was tagged for two runs in two-thirds of an inning in a blown save. The right-hander still leads the majors with 39 saves, but he's also blown 10 saves in a less-than-dominant campaign. He's at a 3.02 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 58:15 K:BB through 65.2 innings this season.

Clase (2-8) blew a save and took the loss against the Angels on Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over two-thirds of an inning.
EDGE Analysis
Clase entered in the ninth frame to try to protect a 2-1 lead but couldn't get the job done. Los Angeles racked up three straight hits with one out to score the game-tying run, and the contest ended when Randal Grichuk singled home the game-winning score with two outs. Clase had been pitching very well coming into Thursday, converting each of his previous seven save chances and allowing just one run over 10.2 innings during that stretch. He leads the majors in both saves (38) and blown saves (10) on the campaign.
