Clase allowed two runs on three hits over one inning in Friday's 8-6 win over the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Clase entered in a non-save situation and was tagged for a pair of runs, including a solo home run. It's unclear why manager Stephen Vogt used his closer, other than the manager perhaps wanting to make sure the Guardians ended a three-game losing streak. Clase, who allowed just five runs over 74.1 innings in 2024, has already ceded three through four innings in 2025.

Clase (1-0) blew the save but picked up a win in Thursday's 7-4 extra-inning victory over the Royals. He allowed one run on three hits while striking out one in the ninth inning.
EDGE Analysis
Clase was nearly perfect last season, converting 47 of 50 save opportunities while pitching to a pristine 0.61 ERA. However, it was a rocky start to the 2025 campaign for the right-hander. Tasked with protecting a one-run lead, Clase gave up back-to-back hits to start the ninth before Michael Massey tied the game with a sac fly. While he'd eventually earn the win after Cleveland scored three runs in the top of the tenth, it certainly wasn't the start to the year that Clase managers expected. Still, there's little cause for concern here as Clase has proven to be one of the game's elite closers, posting 40 or more saves in each of his previous three seasons.

Clase is scheduled to make his first Cactus League appearance Monday versus the Mariners, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Clase's delayed addition to the Guardians' spring pitching schedule isn't due to an injury; instead, the coaching staff is likely prioritizing getting innings for rotation candidates as well as pitchers who are competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster. Despite coming off a rough postseason in which he converted two of three save chances and gave up eight earned runs over eight innings, Clase is locked in as Cleveland's closer and is solidified as an upper-tier fantasy option coming off three straight seasons of least 40 saves. For what he lacks his elite strikeout stuff (career 24.8 K%), Clase makes up for it by limiting walks (career 4.8 BB%) and leaning heavily on his cutter and slider to induce plenty of weak contact (career 60.7 percent groundball rate).

Clase earned the save against the Reds on Wednesday, allowing one hit and two walks with one strikeout in a scoreless ninth inning.
EDGE Analysis
Clase was called upon to protect a 5-2 lead in the ninth frame and worked out of a bases-loaded jam with no outs to secure his 47th save of the season. While he was a bit shaky, the closer has not allowed an earned run in 10 September outings. He owns a microscopic 0.61 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and 66:10 K:BB across 73.1 innings and is in a tightly contested battle with Ryan Helsley of the Cardinals for the major-league lead in saves.

Clase struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Monday to record his 46th save of the season in a 4-3 win over the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander got Carlos Correa and Royce Lewis to chase triple-digit cutters as he converted his 33rd straight save chance, with his last blown save coming May 19. Clase is having a career year, which is saying something given the level of performance he'd already established, The 26-year-old's 46 saves leads the majors, and it comes with a minuscule 0.65 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and 63:8 K:BB through 69.1 innings.

Clase struck out one batter in a perfect inning and earned a save over the Rays on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Clase needed only 12 pitches (nine strikes) to roll through the Rays for his 45th save of the year. The star closer has converted 32 consecutive save chances dating back to May 20. Clase has been remarkably consistent this season, posting a 0.66 ERA with a 61:8 K:BB through 68.1 frames.

Clase earned the save in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the White Sox, allowing one hit while striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.
EDGE Analysis
It's the 40th straight save opportunity that Clase's converted -- he's allowed just one run over his last 24 appearances (25 innings). He's up to a league-leading 44 saves, matching a career high, with a stellar 0.67 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 60:8 K:BB across 67.1 innings this season.

Clase earned a save against the White Sox on Monday, allowing one hit and striking out two batters in a scoreless inning of work.
EDGE Analysis
Clase entered in the ninth inning with a two-run lead and gave up just a harmless two-out infield single. The veteran closer punched out two of the four batters he faced -- just the second time he's recorded multiple strikeouts across his past 10 appearances. Clase is posting under a strikeout per inning for the second straight season, but that hasn't prevented him from putting together a dominant campaign. The right-hander is tied for the major-league lead with 43 saves -- one shy of the career-high mark he established last season -- and has registered a 0.68 ERA and 0.66 WHIP over 66.1innings.

Clase struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Friday's 3-1 win over the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Clase is up to 42 saves on the year, and he's converted 29 consecutive opportunities. He needed just seven pitches (six strikes) to set down the Nos. 5-7 in the Dodgers' order Friday. Clase has given up two runs (one earned) over 15 innings since the beginning of August and now has a 0.69 ERA, 0.66 WHIP and 56:8 K:BB over 65.1 innings. He needs two more saves to match his career high from last year.

Clase pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record his 41st save of the season Monday against the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Clase did not allow a baserunner and did not strikeout any hitters on his way to his 41st save, which puts him one behind Ryan Helsley for the MLB lead. Clase was coming off an appearance on Friday where he allowed his first earned run since the beginning of July, so it's no surprise to see him back to his dominant ways. The 26-year-old has allowed just five earned runs all season and sports a miniscule 0.70 ERA through 64.1 innings.
