Adrianza announced via his Instagram page Tuesday that he's retiring from baseball after 12 major-league seasons.

Adrianza reported having problems with his lower back Friday, and the issue is apparently severe enough to warrant a trip to the injured list. Niko Goodrum will join the active roster to take Adrianza's spot after being claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay on Thursday.

It's uncertain whether or not Adrianza will require a trip to the injured list, but he said he received an MRI on Friday, which should help determine how long he may be out for. Adrianza is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.

Adrianza had started each of the past three games at third base while going 1-for-11 with a solo home run. Even with Miguel Sano (knee) on the injured list and with Luis Rengifo (illness) out of the lineup for the second game in a row, Adrianza will cede the hot corner to Cole Tucker in the series finale.
