Moore isn't starting Friday against the Mets.

The 29-year-old should see additional playing time in right field after Jarred Kelenic was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, but Moore will be out of the lineup for the second time in the last three games. Steven Souza will start in right field and bat eighth after his contract was selected Friday.

Moore, who went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in a loss to the Phillies on Monday, now sports a .192 average and .385 slugging percentage across his first 32 plate appearances.

EDGE Analysis

As poor as those numbers are, they're actually superior to the respective .181 and .334 figures Moore generated over a much larger 377-plate-appearance sample in 2021. The versatile 29-year-old does have an acceptable 18.8 percent strikeout rate and has been partly victimized by a .211 BABIP, but a career-high 60.0 percent flyball rate seems to be hampering his overall production. One metric that offers some reason for optimism is Moore's .323 on-base percentage, which is largely the byproduct of his 12.5 percent walk rate.

Moore will start in left field and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the White Sox, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

EDGE Analysis

Moore received just one plate appearance over the Mariners' first five games, but he'll get the opportunity to pick up his first start Wednesday with Jesse Winker getting the night off. The Mariners are likely just holding the lefty-hitting Winker out of the lineup because southpaw Dallas Keuchel is on the bump for Chicago, so the righty-hitting Moore isn't expected to be in line for anything more than short-side platoon work while Seattle has all of its key regulars available.

Moore, who went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a Cactus League win over the Rangers on Monday, is now hitting .333 (5-for-15) with two home runs, three RBI, a walk, a stolen base and three runs over seven exhibitions.

Moore put together a forgettable .181/.276/.334 slash line across 126 games last season, but he's offered encouraging returns over a small sample this spring. Moore's ability to slot into any position except catcher and solid pop (67 career extra-base hits in 277 games) appear likely to garner him a roster spot for the fourth straight season.

Moore agreed to a one-year, $1.35 million contract with the Mariners on Tuesday to avoid arbitration, Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Moore struggled with a .610 OPS in 126 games last season and will receive a modest bump in pay for his first year of arbitration eligibility. However, he did have 21 stolen bases and 12 homers in 377 plate appearances, though he may not see enough playing time in a utility role to warrant much fantasy consideration.

Moore is hitting .300 with a triple, three RBI, two walks, a stolen base and four runs across the 22 plate appearances he's logged over his last six games heading into Friday night's action.

EDGE Analysis

The versatile Moore has endured a disappointing season at the plate encapsulated in an abysmal .182/.277/.340 slash line across 361 plate appearances, although he's continued a career-long trend of lacing an above-average number of his hits for extra bases (24 XBH out of 58 hits in 2021). A .230 BABIP has helped lead to Moore's undoing at the plate this season, but he's had some better fortune of late when putting the ball in play while also drawing starts in each of the contests constituting the aforementioned six-game sample.

Moore went 2-for-3 with a walk, a steal, an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 7-1 win over the Royals.

EDGE Analysis

Moore notched his first multi-hit game since July 17 while also stealing his 21st base of the year. The 28-year-old has struggled to a .182/.278/.340 slash line with 12 homers, 41 RBI, 36 runs scored and 37:102 BB:K over 345 plate appearances. His versatility on defense will still allow him to see opportunities in the lineup but he really shouldn't be counted on much to produce at the plate.

Moore went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.

EDGE Analysis

Moore went deep in the sixth inning off Tyler Gilbert to cut Seattle's deficit to two runs. It was just his second home run in 36 games since July 26. He is batting only .129 in that stretch. The 28-year-old is slashing just .176/.273/.338 with 12 home runs, 40 RBI and 35 runs scored in 337 plate appearances. On a positive note, he leads Seattle with 20 stolen bases on 24 attempts.

Moore went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run in Monday's 4-3 defeat by the Astros.

EDGE Analysis

Moore pinch hit for Jose Marmolejos in the sixth and took Brooks Raley deep to left to give Seattle the lead momentarily. Moore was lifted for another pinch hitter in the eighth and has only received 40 at-bats in August, going 5-for-40 with Monday's long ball being the lone extra-base hit.

Moore remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

EDGE Analysis

On the bench for the third time in four games, Moore looks like a part-time player for the Mariners at this stage of the season. Despite his role being somewhat volatile in 2021, Moore has produced fantasy-friendly counting stats (10 home runs and 18 steals in 301 plate appearances), but a .181 average and .276 on-base average have limited his appeal from a real-life standpoint.
