Dodd (1-0) earned the win Tuesday in St. Louis, allowing one run on six hits and no walks over five innings in a 4-1 victory. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The 24-year-old made Atlanta's season-opening rotation and was finally added to the MLB roster Tuesday afternoon, and he held down a strong Cardinals offense in his big-league debut. Dodd threw 52 of 73 pitches for strikes and also generated 12 whiffs. The left-hander should maintain his spot in the rotation with Max Fried (hamstring) and Kyle Wright (shoulder) on the injured list, with his next start tentatively lining up for Sunday versus San Diego.

Atlanta selected Dodd's contract Monday, calling him up from Triple-A Gwinnett.
EDGE Analysis
Dodd has been expected to start Tuesday's matchup versus the Cardinals for a while a now and he is now officially on track to toe the rubber. The 24-year-old started 10 games combined last season with Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett, surrendering 18 earned runs while striking out 62 batters over 53 innings.

Dodd remains penciled in as Atlanta's starter for Tuesday's game at St. Louis, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 24-year-old lefty has yet to be added to the 26-man and 40-man rosters since he wasn't needed during the first four games of the season, but he'll officially have his contract selected ahead of Tuesday's contest. Dodd posted a 2.00 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB across 18 innings this spring to earn a spot in the season-opening rotation, and he likely received some added job security with ace Max Fried (hamstring) likely to miss time after he suffered an injury Opening Day.

Dodd is in line to open the season with Atlanta and is scheduled to start the team's fifth game of the regular season April 4 in St. Louis, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Dodd had been battling Jared Shuster for the No. 5 starter's role, but Atlanta will have room for both young arms in its season-opening rotation with the team set to skip Kyle Wright's first turn to afford him more time to get ramped back up following a shoulder injury earlier in the spring. With Wright set to be placed on the injured list, both Shuster and Dodd should be in store for at least two turns through the rotation before Atlanta decides which of the two sticks around in a starting role once Wright is healthy again. Dodd, 24, earned himself a spot with the big club by striking out 20 and walking just four over 18 Grapefruit League innings while holding opposing hitters to a .227 average.

Dodd was charged with three runs on eight hits and two walks over five-plus innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
The southpaw performed better than his final line indicated -- two of the runs came on a wind-aided Justin Turner home run, and the third crossed the plate in the sixth inning after he'd left the game. Dodd has likely made his final start of the spring, ending camp with a dazzling 2.00 ERA and 20:4 K:BB through 18 Grapefruit League innings, and he remains neck and neck with Jared Shuster for Atlanta's fifth starter spot. If Kyle Wright's first start of the season gets delayed -- the right-hander got a very late start to his spring due to shoulder issues -- the battle for the open rotation spot could extend into the regular season.

Dodd gave up a run on two hits and two walks over 4.2 innings in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Facing a Philly lineup lacking its big names, Dodd served up a leadoff solo shot to Brandon Marsh before shaking it off and shutting down the opposition the rest of the way. It was the first run the 24-year-old southpaw has given up this spring, and his 0.69 ERA leads all qualifiers. Unfortunately for Dodd, No. 2 on that list is his competition for Atlanta's fifth starter spot, Jared Shuster (0.71 ERA). The duo's spring numbers are nearly identical across the board -- Dodd has a 15:2 K:BB through 13 innings, while Shuster has a 16:2 mark in 12.2 frames -- and with neither guy currently on the 40-man roster, the coaching staff has a very tough decision ahead of it.

Dodd is one of the finalists to be the fifth starter for Atlanta to open the 2023 season, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Dodd appears to be one of the final two options for Atlanta to open as the fifth starter after Atlanta sent down both Ian Anderson and Bryce Elder. The left-hander has impressed this spring with an 11:0 K:BB and 0.00 ERA over 8.1 innings in three appearances, and registered a 3.36 ERA over 142 innings at three different levels in 2022. Dodd may not win the job over Shuster to open the year, but there's every reason to believe he'll make starts for Atlanta before 2023 comes to a conclusion if he doesn't.

Dodd struck out three batters over two perfect innings in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
The 24-year-old southpaw isn't yet a big name in prospect circles after being a third-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, but Dodd could gain a lot of helium if he keeps pitching like this. He made one start for Triple-A Gwinnett at the end of last season and figures to begin 2023 there, and if the velocity gains he showed last year stick, his potentially plus changeup and strong control could mark him as something more than just a long reliever or swingman in the majors.
