The right-hander threw exactly half of his 84 pitches for strikes, and Tampa made Bundy pay for his control issues, smacking three-run homers in the second and third innings. He now has a 5.31 ERA and 1.38 WHIP with 140 strikeouts over 135.2 innings.

Bundy (7-9) allowed three runs on four hits while fanning seven Sunday as he secured the win over the Rays.

Bundy surrendered three solo homers, but he received plenty of run support as the Orioles scored 11 times in the series finale. The 25-year-old managed to collect his first win since June 23, after giving up 15 runs over his previous three outings (12.1 innings). Bundy has accrued a 4.53 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with 123 strikeouts through 115.1 innings this season.

Bundy only threw 30 pitches during Wednesday's outing before the game was postponed due to inclement weather. Since he didn't come close to a normal workload, manager Buck Showalter felt comfortable putting him back out there with three days of rest for Sunday's series finale. Yefry Ramirez will now take the hill against the Yankees on Tuesday.

Bundy isn't expected to make his next start until Sunday against the Rays or Tuesday against the Yankees, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Because of the workload he handled, Bundy will be given at least the next three days off to recover, as the Orioles plan to start Alex Cobb, Andrew Cashner and Kevin Gausman to start the first three games of the series against the Rays. He'll wrap up his first half with a 4.35 ERA and could benefit from getting a bit of an extended rest with the All-Star break coming up.

Bundy (ankle) was activated off the 10-day disabled list Friday ahead of Friday's start at Minnesota.

EDGE Analysis

Bundy has been on the disabled list since late June and miss a few more than the 10-day minimum, partially so he wouldn't have to hit in a National League ballpark earlier this week. The 25-year-old has a 3.75 ERA and 1.21 WHIP with 108 strikeouts across 96 innings this season, but has a 2.60 ERA and 0.98 WHIP and .192 opponent batting average over his last eight starts.
