May allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three batters in 5.1 innings in a no-decision against Miami on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
May appeared to be en route to a win after completing five scoreless innings, but things took a turn for the worse for him in the sixth. In that frame, the right-hander allowed the first three batters he faced to reach base, and they all came around to score before the inning was over (though two of the runs charged to May crossed the plate following his departure). This was still a better performance for May after he gave up a career-worst seven runs over five innings against the Cubs in his previous trip to the mound, but over his past two contests, May's ERA has jumped from a sparkling 1.06 to a less-impressive 3.95.

May didn't factor into the decision against the Cubs on Tuesday after allowing seven runs on 10 hits and three walks in five innings. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
On top of facing a Cubs offense that entered the day leading the majors in runs scored, May also had to deal with the wind blowing out a bit to center field. After giving up one run or less on three hits or fewer in each of his first three starts this season, May allowed a career-worst seven runs and 10 hits Tuesday. Better days are ahead for the 27-year-old right-hander, who'll take a solid 3.68 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB over 22 innings into a much more favorable situation at home against Miami in his next scheduled start.

May (1-1) earned the win over Colorado on Monday, allowing one run on three hits and no walks while striking out seven batters over six innings.
EDGE Analysis
May cruised through five scoreless frames before giving up a run in the sixth. That proved to be the right-hander's final frame, though he may have been able to go deeper given that he threw just 76 pitches (52 of which were strikes). May racked up 14 whiffs among those offerings, six of which came on his sweeper. May's victory Monday was his first of the season and his first in the big leagues since 2023. He's been very impressive to begin the campaign, posting a 1.06 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 14:6 K:BB through 17 innings.

May (0-1) took the loss Monday at Washington, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
The Los Angeles right-hander picked up his first quality start since May 12, 2023 in this 86-pitch outing. May averaged 95.0 mph on his fastball but did struggle to miss bats, generating just two whiffs. The 27-year-old's season is off to a solid start after he missed all of 2024, as he sports a 0.82 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 7:6 K:BB across 11 innings. May should continue to stick in the Dodgers' rotation, especially since Blake Snell (shoulder) hit the injured list on Sunday.

May didn't factor in the decision Tuesday against Atlanta, allowing one unearned run on a hit and three walks over five innings. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander surrendered a run during the second inning on a single, a walk and an error but otherwise kept Atlanta off the board. May understandably showed a bit of rust in his first big-league start since May of 2023 as he threw just 46 of 81 pitches for strikes, but his stuff looked on point as he generated 11 whiffs. The 27-year-old will continue to work as Los Angeles' No. 6 starter and could have some fantasy utility, assuming he can stay healthy.

Manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that May will begin the season as the Dodgers' fifth starter, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
EDGE Analysis
May had been battling Tony Gonsolin for the final spot in Los Angeles' rotation, but with the latter set to begin the season on the IL due to a back injury, May will officially claim the final spot. He won't travel with the team to Japan for the Tokyo Series against Chicago, per David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports. The 27-year-old righty will instead remain in Arizona to continue ramping up for the start of the domestic season.

Manager Dave Roberts stated Monday that May makes sense as the team's fifth starter, Dodgers Territory reports.
EDGE Analysis
Roberts has been impressed with how May has pitched so far in spring training, and with Tony Gonsolin dealing with a minor back issue that flared up while lifting, it appears May will claim the fifth spot in the starting rotation. The 27-year-old has appeared in three exhibitions this spring, most recently tossing three scoreless frames and striking out three Thursday against the Rangers.

May pitched three scoreless innings in a Cactus League contest against Texas on Thursday, allowing one hit and issuing two walks while striking out three batters.
EDGE Analysis
May and Tony Gonsolin are the leading candidates to claim the Dodgers' final rotation spot, so any outing by either pitcher carries a bit more weight than a typical spring appearance. May helped his case in his third Cactus League appearance, and while his control wasn't great -- he threw 27 of 50 pitches for strikes -- the right-hander sat in the mid-90s with his fastball. May allowed four runs (three earned) over one-plus frame against the Angels in his last start, so this rebound was encouraging. The most important thing for the 27-year-old will be to stay healthy, as he missed all of 2024 and has yet to throw more than 56 innings in a big-league season since making his debut with the Dodgers in 2019.

May allowed four runs (three earned) on one hit and two walks while striking out two batters over one-plus inning in a Cactus League start against the Angels on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
This was May's second appearance this spring -- he pitched a scoreless frame last Sunday against San Diego. The right-hander didn't fare anywhere near as well this time around, though he started off great by striking out the first two batters he faced in a scoreless first inning. May was unable to get an out after returning for the second frame, however, as he walked the first two batters in the inning, saw an error by third baseman Max Muncy load the bases and then served up a grand slam to Jo Adell. May managed to hit 97 mph with his fastball, so he seems to be close to the velocity he displayed prior to undergoing right flexor tendon and UCL reconstruction surgery in July of 2023.

May allowed one hit and struck out one batter over one scoreless inning in Sunday's Cactus League game against San Diego.
EDGE Analysis
It was a successful return to game action for May, who missed all of last season while rehabbing from the right elbow surgery he underwent in July of 2023. The fireballer had resumed throwing off a mound last summer but had his progress halted when he needed throat surgery for an esophageal tear in July. May now appears to be back to full health, and he could either win a spot at the back of the Dodgers' rotation or open the campaign as part of the team's bullpen.
