Manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that May will work out of the bullpen going forward and will be available as a multi-inning reliever Friday against the Rays, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander worked behind Shohei Ohtani as a bulk reliever last week and will now be making the full shift to the bullpen. May has otherwise exclusively worked as a traditional starter this season, and his performance in his first year back from flexor tendon and UCL revision surgery has been underwhelming with a 4.85 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 97:43 K:BB across 104 innings.

May (6-7) took the loss Sunday against the Red Sox, allowing four runs on five hits over five innings. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
May looked sharp early Sunday, allowing just one run through his first four frames. However, he'd give up three runs on three consecutive one-out hits in the fifth, capped by an Alex Bregman two-run homer. It's been an up-and-down year overall for May, who's given up four or more runs in three of his last five outings. His ERA sits at 4.85 with a 1.35 WHIP and 97:43 K:BB across 104 innings this season.

May is slated to start Sunday's game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
EDGE Analysis
For the first time all season, May worked out of the bullpen in his most recent appearance against the Twins on Monday, when he tossed 4.2 scoreless frames in bulk relief behind Shohei Ohtani, who was limited to three innings. Ohtani isn't scheduled to pitch again until Wednesday, so the Dodgers will return May to his traditional starting role for the series finale in Boston. Over his 17 starts this season, May has gone 5-6 with a 4.96 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 88:40 K:BB across 94.1 innings.

May (6-6) allowed five hits and three walks while striking out four over 4.2 scoreless relief innings to earn the win Monday over the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
May worked in tandem with Shohei Ohtani, who allowed one run over the first three innings of the game. This could be a valuable reset for May, who had been torched to the tune of a 6.05 ERA and 1.50 WHIP across his previous seven starts, spanning 38.2 innings. For the season, May is at a 4.73 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 92:43 K:BB through 99 innings. This bulk-relief outing was expected to be a one-time situation for May, though it's not yet clear when he'll next pitch, especially with Blake Snell (shoulder) nearing a return that would give the Dodgers their healthiest rotation yet in 2025.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that May will be used out of the bullpen in Monday's game against the Twins as part of a pitching tandem with Shohei Ohtani, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
May's upcoming relief appearance will be his first at the big-league level since 2020, though Roberts suggested it would be a "one-off" arrangement. Though May doesn't appear to have lost his spot in the rotation, the Dodgers are hoping that working behind Ohtani will yield better results for the 27-year-old, who was roughed up for seven earned runs on five hits and four walks over 4.2 innings against the Giants in his final start before the All-Star break. Roberts said that the Dodgers are planning to limit Ohtani to three innings Monday, so May should be well positioned to come away with a win if he's able to exit the relief appearance with Los Angeles in the lead.

May (5-6) allowed seven runs on five hits and four walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings to take the loss Friday versus the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
May gave up a pair of solo home runs as well as a two-run triple. He ran into trouble in the fifth inning, and Anthony Banda was unable to cut off the Giants' rally, which ultimately was too much for the Dodgers to overcome. The seven runs allowed matched a season high for May, who has had mixed results at best since the start of June. He's now at a 4.96 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 88:40 K:BB through 94.1 innings over 17 starts this season. The Dodgers' rotation is getting healthier with Shohei Ohtani building up and Tyler Glasnow returning from a shoulder injury Wednesday, but it's safe to assume May will continue to have a spot at least until Blake Snell (shoulder) is ready to return.

May (5-5) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out nine over seven-plus innings to earn the win over the White Sox on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
May retired the first 16 batters he faced in this dominant outing, which also saw him pitch into the eighth inning for the first time this year. That's where he started to fade, allowing a two-run home run to Brooks Baldwin that ended his start. May was mediocre in June, posting a 5.67 ERA across 27 innings over his five starts last month, but July is off to a better start for him after he took advantage of an easy matchup. The right-hander is now at a 4.52 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 84:36 K:BB over 89.2 innings through 16 starts. His next start is expected to be on the road versus the Brewers.

May took a no-decision after throwing four innings, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three, during Friday's 5-4 win over the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
May battled through his shortest start of the season Friday. Walks were again an issue for the 27-year-old. After three more walks against the Royals, he has now walked 13 batters over his last four starts. It will be interesting to monitor how the right-hander will hold up over the second half of the season. He's already up to over 82 innings on the year, well past his previous career high of 56 innings.

May (4-5) took the loss against Washington on Saturday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five batters over six innings.
EDGE Analysis
May got through three scoreless frames before James Wood and Luis Garcia Jr. tagged him for back-to-back solo homers in the fourth. Nathaniel Lowe tacked on another solo homer in the sixth, and the Dodgers were unable to provide enough offense to take the righty hurler off the hook. May did manage to notch a quality start -- his second straight and his seventh of the season -- so the end result wasn't a complete disaster. His next matchup is expected to be a road matchup versus Kansas City.

May (4-4) allowed three runs on six hits and four walks while striking out three over six innings to earn the win over the Giants on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
May gave up all three runs in the fourth inning, but the Dodgers regained the lead on an Andy Pages three-run homer in the fifth. That was enough to give May his first win over three starts in June -- he's allowed 11 runs (10 earned) with a 9:10 K:BB over 17 innings this month. The right-hander has pitched to a 4.46 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 67:30 K:BB through 72.2 innings through 13 starts on the year. May is tentatively scheduled to draw a home start versus the Nationals his next time out.
