After batting last in the order in his MLB debut Friday, Fowler moved up to seventh Saturday, but that was likely just because primary catcher Jonathan Lucroy was receiving the day off. With Lucroy back in action Sunday, Fowler will revert to the ninth spot and will look to get on track following a 1-for-9 start to his Athletics career.

Fowler has been one of the more popular stashes in redraft leagues, given his experience and success at Triple-A and Oakland's lack of a center fielder capable of hitting right-handed pitching. It seems likely that Mark Canha will continue to see starts against southpaws, but Fowler should come in and start against righties from day one. Dating back to his time with the Yankees last season, Fowler has 16 home runs and 21 steals (on 28 attempts) in 100 career games at Triple-A. He has also always hit for a high batting average in the minors, hitting .293 in 70 games at Triple-A in 2017 and .310 in 30 games in the Pacific Coast League this year. His ability to provide stolen bases and possibly earn a spot near the top of the lineup against righties makes him an appealing add, particularly in 15-team mixed roto leagues.

Fowler is slashing .309/.333/.464 with five doubles, two triples, two home runs, 13 RBI, four walks, six stolen bases and 12 runs over 102 plate appearances with Triple-A Nashville thus far in 2018.

The emerging center fielder has been swinging a red-hot bat over the last two games in particular, going 7-for-10 with a home run and four RBI during that pair of contests. He's hitting .341 overall in his last 10 games, a stretch during which he's compiled four multi-hit efforts overall. Despite his stellar body of work in the early going, the equally impressive efforts of Mark Canha and Chad Pinder -- along with the Athletics' desire to have Fowler get as many reps as possible -- project to keep the 23-year-old with the Sounds for the time being, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

Fowler, who went 2-for-4 in Triple-A Nashville's 1-0 win over Iowa on Thursday, is slashing .283/.333/.321 over his first 57 plate appearances with the Sounds.

He's generated a pair of doubles, five RBI and four stolen bases in the process, a solid start after losing out on the starting center field job at the big-league level to Boog Powell (knee) in spring training. The Athletics notably opted to keep Fowler with the Sounds after Powell recently went on the disabled list, as it remains the best opportunity for him to log consistent at-bats. The strategy seems to be paying off overall, as the 23-year-old now has five multi-hit efforts over his last nine games and has reached safely in eight contests overall during that span.

Fowler is 4-for-13 (.308 average) with two strikeouts and two steals in 13 at-bats for Triple-A Nashville.

He could be promoted any day now, with Boog Powell (knee) landing on the 10-day DL for the A's. If Fowler was dropped in deeper mixed leagues, it's time to add him, as he could steal 20-plus bases while hitting for a decent average with modest pop, and is generally seen as Oakland's long-term center fielder.

He'll open the year in Triple-A and will attempt to shake off the rust after suffering a season-ending knee injury in his major-league debut for the Yankees in June. When he eventually returns to the big leagues, he could provide fantasy owners with a decent amount of power and speed, having hit 13 homers and stolen 13 bags in 70 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last season.

Fowler, who is competing with Boog Powell for the starting center field job, has felt increasingly comfortable during the latter half of spring following a slow start due to June 2017 knee surgery, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports. "Obviously the results haven't really come at the plate, but I'm starting to feel everything I wanted to feel," said Fowler. "Timing is getting there, and I'm starting to have competitive at-bats. I know we have just a little bit of time left to be able find them things, but right now I think I'm ready, and hopefully they give me the shot to see what I can do over there."

Fowler is 3-for-18 (.167 average) with a double and three stolen bases so far in Cactus League action. He's drawn two walks and struck out six times.

It's understandable that Fowler, who suffered a ruptured patella tendon last June in his big-league debut, has had some rust after the extended absence. Fowler said earlier this week that he is starting to feel more comfortable at the plate, telling Melissa Lockard of The Athletic, "I've been getting competitive at-bats for the most part, so I'm happy with the progress that I've done over the last week or so." If the A's feel he needs additional reps beyond spring training, it's possible they could send Fowler down for a brief period of time, but the starting job in center field should be Fowler's for most of the year.
