Acevedo allowed just one inherited runner to score on a fielder's choice and then surrendered an Anthony Rendon RBI double in the sixth, but he also recorded swinging strikeouts of Mike Trout and Hunter Renfroe during the frame. Given he handled a 25-pitch workload relatively effectively, it would seem Acevedo is ready to jump back into his usual high-volume role.

The veteran reliever went on the injured list with a lower-back strain back last Wednesday, so it's certainly a positive that he's already able to throw without apparent issue. Given his relief role and the fact he's been sidelined for a short period, Acevedo is likely a candidate for a brief rehab assignment.

Oakland recalled Chad Smith from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move to take Acevedo's spot in the bullpen. The right-hander will be out for at least two weeks while he recovers with a chance to join the Oakland relief corps before the end of April if he avoids any setbacks.

Acevedo has yet to give up a run over 4.2 innings in four Cactus League appearances, allowing two hits and three walks while recording five strikeouts.

The right-hander has been a reliable relief option over his first two big-league seasons, posting a 4-4 record, 3.32 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, four saves and 21 holds across 78.2 innings (80 appearances). Acevedo currently profiles as the top setup option behind projected closer Dany Jimenez, and with the exception of some modest control issues thus far this spring, his Cactus League body of work seems to support the notion he's up for the task.

Acevedo allowed an unearned run on two hits over one inning to take a blown save in Tuesday's 2-1 extra-inning win over the Angels.

Acevedo gave up an RBI single to Matt Duffy in the ninth inning that tied the game at 1-1. This was Acevedo's first blown save since taking over the Athletics' closer job in mid-September. The 28-year-old owns a 3.33 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 58:17 K:BB through 67.2 innings this year while adding four saves, four blown saves and 21 holds through 70 appearances.

Acevedo (4-4) earned the extra-inning win with one scoreless inning against the Angels on Monday. He did not allow a hit and walked one with one strikeout.

After Seth Brown tied the game at 4-4 with a two-run single in the ninth inning, Acevedo entered the game and retired the side in the 10th inning. The Athletics then walked off on an infield single, giving Acevedo his fourth win.
