Castillo pitched a perfect eighth inning with one strikeout against the Marlins on Friday to earn his third hold of the season.
EDGE Analysis
The Rays were ahead 5-4 when starter Josh Fleming exited the game, and manager Kevin Cash went with Ryan Thompson, Peter Fairbanks, Castillo and Nick Anderson (in that order) to close things out. It was Anderson's first appearance back from the injured list and fourth save of the season. Castillo has been great with a 2.30 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and three saves in 17 appearances, but if this one game is any indication, he's going to play second fiddle with Anderson back.

Castillo gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Monday to record his third save of the season in a 5-3 win over the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
All three of his saves have come in his last three appearances, as Castillo makes a strong push to keep the closer job even after the rest of the Rays' high-leverage crew gets healthy. On the season, he has a 1.98 ERA and 16:7 K:BB through 13.2 innings.

Castillo allowed a hit and a walk while striking out a batter in a scoreless ninth inning to earn his second save of 2020.
EDGE Analysis
Castillo retired the first two batters he faced and then proceeded to make things interesting after allowing a double to Garrett Cooper and walking Jonathan Villar before getting Jorge Alfaro to ground out to end the game. Castillo has picked up two saves in a span of three days as it appears he has slotted into the Rays closer role for now.

Castillo struck out two and did not allow a baserunner to earn the save Wednesday against the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
Castillo was called upon to protect a one-run lead and needed only 12 pitches to secure his first save of the campaign. He has been excellent to this point in the season, maintaining a 2.31 ERA with 14 strikeouts across 11.2 innings. While he has regularly pitched in high-leverage roles, this was Castillo's first save chance of the season, which he likely earned due to the absences of Nick Anderson (forearm), Oliver Drake (biceps), Chaz Roe (elbow) and Jose Alvarado (shoulder). With at least a few of those injuries expected to be only short-term, the Rays will likely continue to mix and match the closer role for the remainder of the season.

Castillo (2-0) was credited with the victory in a win over the Yankees on Thursday despite allowing an earned run on one hit over two-thirds of an inning. He also recorded one strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander had a brief but interesting stint on the mound after coming on in the fifth, as he allowed a two-run home run to Gio Urshela that gave the Yankees a temporary 4-3 lead. Manuel Margot, Joey Wendle and Mike Zunino then bailed out Castillo by authoring a five-run sixth inning for the Rays, setting the reliever up for his second win of the season. Castillo had yet to allow a run this season before Urshela's round tripper, and he still boasts a 1.08 ERA and 0.96 WHIP across 10 appearances.

Castillo, who fired a clean eighth inning during which he recorded two strikeouts in a win over the Red Sox on Tuesday, has yet to be scored on over seven appearances this season.
EDGE Analysis
The right-handed reliever has also allowed just a single hit while forging an 8:3 K:BB across 5.2 innings, underscoring how effective he's been. Castillo has one victory and no holds or save chances, so while he hasn't been an elite fantasy asset by any stretch, his real-world value to the Rays bullpen is unquestioned.

Castillo (1-0) was credited with the win in Monday's rout of the Braves, firing a scoreless fifth inning during which he didn't allow any hits or walks and recorded two strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Just activated from the paternity list earlier in the day, Castillo was put right to work after starter Tyler Glasnow already had Toronto hitters reeling with nine strikeouts over the first four frames. Castillo kept up the trend of missing bats, firing eight of his 10 pitches into the strike zone while retiring Austin Riley and William Contreras for his two strikeouts. The right-hander's strong start is an encouraging sign manager Kevin Cash has yet another viable weapon in his bullpen arsenal to attack with in the shortened season.

Castillo was activated from the paternity list Monday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com report.
EDGE Analysis
Previous reports indicated that Castillo wouldn't return from the paternity list just yet, but those reports were evidently incorrect. Whether he's ready to pitch Monday remains to be seen, however. Daniel Robertson was optioned in a corresponding move.

Castillo (personal) isn't expected back from paternity leave Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Castillo's three-day leave officially ended Sunday, but manager Kevin Cash stated he wasn't expecting to see his reliever Monday, adding "it would be a nice surprise if that happens." The Rays have the option of placing Castillo on either the family medical or restricted list if his time away from the team is still projected to extend a few more days.

Castillo was placed on the paternity list by the Rays on Friday, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old will end up missing Opening Day in order to be with his family for the birth of his child. The paternity list usually carries a three-day maximum absence, but Castillo could be gone a bit longer due to the protocols for COVID-19. Nick Anderson and Jose Alvarado remain in the mix for closer's duties for the Rays.
