White Sox signed OF Denis Phipps to a minor league contract. Phipps, 28, batted .248/.331/.385 with nine homers and 14 steals in 482 plate appearances this past season for the Reds' Triple-A affiliate in Louisville. He will serve as organizational outfield depth for Chicago.

Phipps, 26, batted .346/.397/.527 with 12 homers, 64 RBI and a .924 OPS this season between Double-A Carolina and Triple-A Louisville. He's a little old for a prospect and benefitted from an abnormally high batting average on balls in play this season, but the Reds are hopeful the breakout is for real.
