Nationals signed INF/OF Delwyn Young to a minor league contract. The deal does not include a spring training invite. Young, 30, played last season with the Camden Riversharks of the independent Atlantic League and hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2010 as a member of the Pirates. He figures to serve as organizational depth.

Young posted a weak .244/.298/.387 batting line with 109 strikeouts and 30 walks in 480 plate appearances last season for the Phillies' Triple-A team in Lehigh Valley. He still has real problems with plate discipline and will struggle to climb to the major leagues with Chicago.
