Hess was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday, Rich Dubroff of Pressboxonline.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hess is back in the majors after delivering one of his best starts of the year with Norfolk on Saturday. Across seven scoreless innings, he allowed just two hits and three walks while striking out nine during a victory over Rochester. The right-hander spent some time in the Orioles rotation this year but was bumped from the staff and sent back to Triple-A earlier this month in favor of Yefry Ramirez. Look for him to serve as a middle reliever while having the ability to make a spot start during his time with the team.

Hess was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Hess lost his rotation spot earlier this week after allowing at least five runs in four consecutive starts, and with Dylan Bundy (ankle) returning from the disabled list, the move is hardly surprising. Hess will return to the Tides, where he has a 2.12 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with a .189 opponent batting average over 29.2 innings this season.

Hess will be bumped from the rotation in favor of Yefry Ramirez on Wednesday, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hess loses his spot after allowing at least five runs in each of his last four starts. He'll remain on the roster in a long-relief role.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter wouldn't commit to Hess receiving a start in the right-hander's next scheduled turn Wednesday against the Phillies, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxonline.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Orioles don't have many internal options making compelling cases for looks in the big-league rotation, but the club may be ready to pull the plug on Hess, who has fallen apart after turning in quality starts in four of his first five outings. He has failed to escape the sixth inning in any of his subsequent four turns, giving up at least five runs in each of those starts. Hess' 26:19 K:BB, 1.9 HR/9 and 35 percent groundball rate through 47 innings suggest that major improvement in his 5.94 ERA shouldn't be expected if he sticks around in the rotation.

Hess (2-5) took the loss Friday, coughing up six runs on nine hits and two walks over 5.2 innings while striking out two as the Orioles fell 7-1 to the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Mike Trout's first-inning homer put the right-hander in an early hole and he wasn't able to recover, throwing 57 of 84 pitches before getting the hook. Hess will carry a 5.94 ERA into his next outing Wednesday in Philadelphia, and another poor performance could put his rotation spot on thin ice when Chris Tillman (back) comes off the disabled list in July.

Hess (2-4) allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks across four innings en route to a loss Sunday against the Braves. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Hess allowed two runs on two hits and a walk in the first inning before another three runs came across during a third-inning rally from the home team. He threw a solid 68 percent of his pitches for strikes, but he simply missed over the plate too often and paid the price against a potent offense. Hess has now allowed exactly five earned runs in each of his last three starts to see his ERA rise to 5.44. He'll look to right the ship next weekend against the Angels.

Hess allowed five runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two over 4.2 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
Hess limited the Nationals to just one hit -- a Trea Turner solo homer -- over the first four innings, but they got to the starter for an additional four runs in the fifth inning on four hits and two walks. After allowing just two earned runs over 18.2 innings between three starts from May 25 to June 7, Hess has now allowed a combined 10 runs in his last two outings. He owns a disappointing 4.82 ERA on the year.

Hess (3-3) allowed five runs on five hits and four walks across 3.1 innings en route to a loss Tuesday against the Red Sox. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Hess fell victim to the long ball early, allowing a two-run home run to Rafael Devers in the second inning and a solo shot to Andrew Benintendi in the third. He faltered again in the fourth, allowing a run on three hits and a walk and watching as the bullpen balked in another runner after his removal. It was a poor outing to say the least for Hess, who'd allowed just two earned runs over 18.2 innings across his last three starts combined. He still owns a respectable 4.13 ERA, but he'll face another tough matchup next week in his scheduled start against the Nationals.

Hess allowed one run on five hits and two walks in six innings Thursday, striking out four batters in the 5-4 extra innings loss to the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Aside from the solo shot off the bat of Curtis Granderson in the first inning, Hess was just about spotless on the evening. In his last three outings, the rookie has yielded just two earned runs across 18.2 innings of work, lowering his season ERA to a solid 3.07. He'll be faced with a tough matchup next week against Boston.

Hess (2-2) came away with the loss Wednesday as the Orioles fell 2-0 to the Nationals, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over six innings while striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander threw 65 of 97 pitches for strikes and worked ahead of Washington's hitters all night, throwing 17 first-pitch strikes to the 23 batters he faced, but a solo homer by Bryce Harper in the third inning proved to be one mistake too many for Hess with Max Scherzer in Cy Young form opposite him. With an off day coming Monday, Hess may have his next turn through the rotation skipped, but if he does remain on schedule he'll next take the mound Tuesday on the road against the Mets.
