Ceciliani was designated for assignment Wednesday by the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
With the signing of Yoenis Cespedes being made official, someone had to be removed from the 40-man roster, and Ceciliani was the casualty. The 25-year-old spent most of his time with Triple-A Las Vegas last year and boasted a .345/.398/.581 slash line with nine home runs and 16 stolen bases, but he only mustered a .206 batting average in 74 plate appearances. He'll have to prove he can hit major league pitching if he wants to force his way back into the Mets' future plans.

Ceciliani (undisclosed) was recalled and placed on the 60-day DL on Tuesday, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Whether he's injured or not is unclear at this point, but the rationale behind the move is to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. The Mets used that roster spot to promote Tim Stauffer from Las Vegas earlier Tuesday.

Ceciliani was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday. Ceciliani appeared in 39 games for the Mets since being recalled in May, but batted just .206/.270/.279 with one home runt in 68-at bats. He will now return to Triple-A, with Kirk Nieuwenhuis replacing him on the 25-man roster.

Ceciliani is in the starting lineup and batting fifth in Sunday's game against the Reds. This is just Ceciliani's fourth start of the year in center field, as he is starting in place of Juan Largares, who finished up Saturday's game that was suspended till Sunday. His playing time is very sporadic and he will likely only see the field when an outfielder has the day off.

Ceciliani is in the starting lineup Sunday against the Braves, playing left field and batting sixth. Ceciliani went 2-for-5 starting Saturday and will get another opportunity Sunday. His playing time figures to be sporadic, seeing action when either Michael Cuddyer or Curtis Granderson get a day off, as is the case Sunday with Cuddyer sitting.

Ceciliani collected his first major-league steal, RBI and run Monday against the Padres. That's a lot of firsts for a 1-for-4 day. He's seen limited action, mostly off the bench, since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas, but Ceciliani flashed some skills in this one. The 24-year-old was hitting .336/.381/.584 with five homers and six steals in 37 games for the 51s, but will likely continue to see only occasional time for the Mets.

Ceciliani is starting in left field Monday with Michael Cuddyer shifting to first base due to Lucas Duda's (knee) absence from the lineup. Duda was a hit by a pitch Sunday resulting in his absence Monday. He is available to pinch-hit and could be back in the lineup Tuesday. Until Duda is in the starting lineup, Ceciliani could see additional playing time in the outfield.

Ceciliani has been called up from Triple-A Las Vegas While the Mets still haven't announced a corresponding move, it seems likely Ceciliani will replace Kirk Nieuwenhuis as the team's fourth outfielder. Ceciliani is having a fantastic season for Triple-A Las Vegas, but he isn't one of the more highly-regarded prospects in the Mets' organization.

Ceciliani will be recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas prior to Tuesday's game, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports. No corresponding move has been announced, but it wouldn't be surprising if Ceciliani replaces Kirk Nieuwenhuis as the Mets' reserve outfielder. The 24-year-old southpaw has been raking through 36 games at Triple-A, batting .339/.385/.578 with five home runs and 17 RBI.
