Alvarez was released by the Twins on Wednesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarez failed to earn a minor-league spot after signing with the Twins in January. The 30-year-old owns a 5.06 ERA in 48 career major-league innings and will likely have to prove himself at Triple-A somewhere before getting another chance at the top level.

Alvarez signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Thursday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The southpaw spent much of last season with the Mariners' Triple-A affiliate, producing a 1.98 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP and a 28:14 K:BB in 27 frames. He was released in early August, though, allowing him to test the free agent market this offseason. Alvarez will join the Twins organization looking for a big-league bullpen spot, though there are already a few lefties at the major-league level who could force Alvarez to spend even more time in the minors.

Alvarez was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarez passed through waivers unclaimed and will remain within the Mariners' organization after being sent off the 40-man roster last week. The 29-year-old has appeared in five games for Tacoma thus far in 2018, posting a 2.84 ERA and 1.97 WHIP over 6.1 innings of relief.

Alvarez was claimed off waivers by the Mariners and was subsequently assigned to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
EDGE Analysis
The southpaw was sent to the minors by the Cubs after a rough start to spring training, but he'll now make a return to the AL West instead of going to Chicago's affiliate in Iowa. Alvarez did produce a 2.76 ERA in 20 appearances for the Rangers last season, but his FIP was well above that (4.67) thanks to some command struggles in the majors. Alvarez has some upside thanks to his past major-league experience, but he'll need to first claw his way out of the minors before attempting to climb the bullpen depth chart.

The Cubs optioned Alvarez to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarez signed a major-league deal with the Cubs in early December and struggled through 6.1 innings during spring training, carrying a 8.53 ERA and 1.89 WHIP while striking out nine. The 29-year-old southpaw could make his way back to the majors for the Cubs this but is likely to begin in a low-leverage role once recalled from Triple-A.

Alvarez signed a major-league deal with the Cubs, Mets Minors' Jacob Resnick reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Rangers designated him for assignment last season, despite the fact that his Triple-A numbers were excellent (2.33 ERA, 31.3 percent strikeout rate), and he limited runs (2.76 ERA) while striking out 17 over 16.1 MLB innings. Of course, his 14 walks over that stretch are concerning, but his stuff is pretty decent from the left side. He works strictly with a fastball (92.4 mph) and slider, which he threw a whopping 61.7 percent of the time in 2017. He should start the season in a low-leverage role.

Alvarez was designated for assignment Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Although Alvarez posted a solid 2.76 ERA over 16.1 innings for the Rangers this year, the other shoe was bound to drop any second. Alvarez walked 14 batters in 16.1 innings and owned an absurd 2.02 WHIP. He was sharp for Triple-A Round Rock (2.33 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 36:10 K:BB over 27 innings), so he may draw some interest on waivers.

Alvarez was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarez was the roster casualty needed to clear room on the 25-man for Jason Grilli, who was recently acquired from the Blue Jays in a trade. While he compiled a respectable 2.76 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 16.1 innings of work, his 2.02 WHIP and 14 walks suggest that success may be difficult to maintain. He'll head back to Round Rock to work some kinks out, while he should see another opportunity in Texas' struggling bullpen down the road.

Alvarez gave up a walk and a hit before recording the final two outs of the fifth inning in Monday's 15-9 loss to the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarez may have escaped the contest without damage to his ERA, but he failed to clot the bleeding upon replacing starter Cole Hamels with one out and the bases loaded. The lefty would go on to allow all three of Hamels' baserunners to score, cutting the Rangers' lead from five to two by the time he departed. With a 16:13 K:BB and 1.91 WHIP over 14.2 innings this season, Alvarez hasn't made a strong case for further work in high-leverage scenarios.

Alvarez was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
With reliever Tony Barnette landing on the disabled list with a finger issue, the Rangers will summon Alvarez from Round Rock to fill the void. Alvarez's lone appearance in the minors was a scoreless one, which is consistent with his serviceable 3.27 ERA out of the major-league bullpen earlier in the season. He'll likely serve as a middle reliever for now.
